An absolutely brilliant summary of the unending string of abject failures of the current government of New Zealand. This is the sort of incisive communication I am looking for from my leaders.

A chart showing new EV & PHEV sales over the years. The market absolutely fell out when the new National govt had a fucking insane idea to stop incentives to get EVs, then when Trump thought he should start a war instead of going to jail for being a Pedo & fuel prices went through the roof, EV sales have risen again

Big news arriving in about an hour. I have maintained a "playoff beard" since earlier this month while waiting for this to resolve and, holy crap, in addition to hating how I look with facial hair it also ages me at least 10yrs. Hoping I get to shave it off in an hour.

In addition to making my favorite donuts I've ever eaten not in a tiny shack off the side of the road in Vermont, I've discovered New World also has the best gummy bears I've ever eaten in their bulk foods section. And candy has to be REALLY GOOD to get me to interact with the bulk foods section.

It will always be wild to me that noted quality control freak James Cameron didn't send Sam Worthington back into the booth for another take on the opening monologue of Avatar after he fully delivered it in an Australian accent.

the cult of the superior machines is inherently a patriarchal cult (like nearly all cults in recorded history) its theology classifies “AI” systems as either wives (systems that exist to serve and empower Great Men) or Gods (theoretical future systems, male-coded, that become the Great Men)

it really needs to be more openly discussed that all the people advocating for “we should be fine with losing basic skills if we get more systems thinking” are men, meaning socialized to expect to be able to offload basic tasks of daily living onto a wife as part of their compensation for existing

I might just be a basic nerd from the 90s, but DAMN Street Fighter looks like it's gonna be the most fun movie. Even if it totally sucks, it LOOKS COOL. If you're gonna make a video game movie, it has to look at least as cool as the video game. www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6sb...

One of my favorite cases of someone being Wrong on the Internet was a very earnest, very confused vegan who was telling people how cruel honey is; and it eventually turned out they thought honey was made by putting bees in a centrifuge and spinning them around until they threw up.

Remembering when I was interviewing for my first job in NZ, and at the 2nd or 3rd interview they said we were going out of the office so I thought we were getting lunch, but they brought me to a bar and ordered drinks. Me, a sober person (of just 4yrs at the time). No heads up. No, "is this okay?"

Pen, watercolor, black & white charcoal pencil.

Another featured piece from the Spooky Pants book.

A man in a sweater stands with his hands on his hips looking out of a large window with the curtains open. Things aren’t looking good outside, reader. A massive winged demon is emerging from the clouds as dozens of little ghosts and bone demons rip through the sky. On the ground below we see townsfolk running through the grass. Our man in the window is in no mood for this. He lets us know, “Oh, I am in no mood for this.” His dog looks out the window as well, wagging its tail.

Fantasia (1940) inspired drawing. I think I could’ve gone a little heavier with the chaos outside but we’ll try again with fresh drawings this October. I like how the clouds turned out. Trying to balance my sloppy lines with more detail can be tricky but I think we achieved a good result.

So MBIE officials recommended spending less, but targeting the money towards local music festivals. And Louise Upston chose to spend much more, but hand it all to multinational companies and overseas artists.
They reveal MBIE’s reasoning as to why it advised the government against investing in concerts, including a lack of “wider benefit opportunities” and “no international brand visibility”, though it said many countries, including Australia and Malaysia, offer concert funds. Instead, MBIE suggested funding local music festivals with a smaller, discrete, one-off fund. This is advice which Upston also seems to have ignored; late last year, the long-running music festival Splore called it quits, saying its $240,000 funding request had been denied.

At this point Labour would need to do a top-down house clean to get me to vote for them. Labour's inadequacy and the disastrous non-leadership of Chris Hipkins really transformed me from "the Greens are a bit too left" center-liberal in 2020 to a "give me Greens or give me death" leftist in 2026.

A photo of Dolly Parton from 1992. The photo is taken from the bust up. She is wearing a white gown with stoning and massive fur shoulder pads and is looking up and to the right, off frame. She looks quite angelic.A head-to-toe photograph of Dolly Parton. She is wearing a gown that is form-fitting and black on one-side and an explosive butterfly-wing of color on the other side. The gown has a massive train in that same colorful motif that is spread around her feet in a massive circle. She has her arms outstretched and is smiling broadly with her mouth open, as if she might be mid-song. She is looking up and to the right out of the frame of the photo.
