In my Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases course, students are building their understanding of epidemic dynamics using SIR models. Yesterday, we applied these tools to a very serious public health threat: the impending zombie apocalypse. 🧟‍♂️

Spent Friday at an event to celebrate PennPORT, Penn's IRACDA program that, along with all of the other IRACDA programs, had their funding terminated. IRACDA programs bring together early career folks passionate about teaching & research, providing community, education, & experience. What a loss.

More from inside NIH: Per a source with knowledge, for all internal research (of which there is like $10 billion worth or so), ALL purchasing shut down as of yesterday. That means gloves, reagents, anything involved with lab work, which means a lot of that work will stop.

Recently learned about this paper: Canning et al. 2022 found syllabus language that signaled a professor had a fixed (v. growth) mindset resulted in students anticipating less belonging, but in female students, it also resulted in decreased academic performance. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
