And France does not feel progressive when you're there, like they're just barely tolerating immigrants and LGBT folks and women having thoughts. Driving around rural France, my wife wondered if it's the US if rich conservatives hadn't lost their minds over the New Deal. I think she's right.

This is incredible. I tell people that France is the place for me because of the cheese and wine and cigarettes and art and bad attitude but it's also because this kind of behavior is French as hell too.

Pretty wild to see Alito describe reliance on Obergefell as "much more concrete" than reliance on Roe v. Wade, because Roe was merely about "women's ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in." If it's a Ladies Issue, he just doesn't give a shit. www.cbsnews.com/news/samuel-...
"One of the important factors we take into account in deciding whether we should reexamine a past decision is the degree to which there has been reliance on the decision," he said. "Obviously a great deal had changed in the country as a result of Obergefell. There was a lot of reliance in various ways on the decision in Obergefell."

I pointed out that people thought Roe v. Wade was settled law of the land, had organized their lives around it. Overturning Roe also would have consequences.

Obergefell, he said, was different.

"After Obergefell, people of the same sex got married and entered into contracts … it was much more concrete," he said. "Whereas with Roe, the argument was made that it had an effect on people's ideas, women's ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in, that this would have an effect on the society. It was much more abstract than what would've been involved had we been asked to overrule Obergefell."

If you think you're a sensible moderate "bit of a lefty" journalist and you find yourself constantly thinking "well surely there must be some sensible way for the left to avoid the ire of my psychotic colleagues, why don't they just do that," I assure you, there is not, you're just their friends.

I’d add: they don’t act like this because they think we are too extreme or idealistic or impractical. They behave like this because *they think we are inferior people*, that we are beneath them socially, intellectually and morally, and so they are fully justified in doing whatever they want to us.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

Yeah - I kinda wish the Bolt was about 10-15% smaller in most dimensions. That'd still be plenty big but would make it even easier to drive around the city.

That's basically our story. TBF, they're deceptively large and just shaped like smaller cars. It's only 1" narrower than our full-size eurowagon, wheelbase just 3" shorter, and it's around 6" taller. (Though 30" shorter overall.) I'm over 6'3" and have tons of room in our Bolt.

We were weighing several smaller vehicles when we bought ours. The Weber State teardown sold me: the drivetrain is genius - so simple. (And it drives great.)

Like every other post on the Bolt owner subreddit is about the CarPlay/Android Auto thing. Real ahole move by GM. The dealers always hated the Bolt, too: lower sales price + little maintenance = less for them

Miami pro hac Vice @kja.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It's like GM never wanted to do the Bolt to start with. It's really messed up because it's a fantastic car. Our eurowagon is more comfy on the highway, but I take the Bolt every time for errands and shorter trips.

Miami pro hac Vice @kja.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The GM sales people absolutely despise them. We bought a slightly used 2023 two years ago (looked at new and used); sales people didn't know anything about them and actively tried to sell an ICE SUV instead. Same story over and over on the Bolt subreddit.

Don't quote me on it, but navigation/location accesses dedicated neutral pathways, so they need to be used occasionally. (Not sure you have to abandon GPS for it: I've def watched people blindly follow satnav directions and watched people actively navigate while using satnav.)

I was a mapping & charting major undergrad and was the kid regularly finishing first in orienteering in Boy Scouts, ranger school, special forces tryouts. GPS is a fantastic tool, esp paired with real-time location-based information. But def spend time finding your way analog once in awhile.

This is exactly the same as "We shouldn't do impeachment because it will fail." You impeach. And then you do it again. And then you do it again. And you make the far right authoritarian party block it in the Senate, again and again.
