What still strikes me about the logging industry, years after encountering it head on, is its dishonesty. There is nothing they won't lie about. It's one reason court cases are effective: spin doesn't work in front of magistrates.

I've always thought that offsets are largely an accounting sham; as an ecologist they make little sense to me on a finite planet and where most habitats and ecosystems can't be recovered quickly. This video rams it home. National parks and koalas are not there to help polluters to keep polluting.

If fuel breaks will have a limited effect on stopping fire spotting and may potentially contribute to crown fires, why are they being constructed? One reason is that firebreak construction provides a source of timber for the native forest logging industry johnmenadue.com/post/2026/08...
