an important element in US vs Canada on this now out-and-out trade war is that Carney is confident his country is willing to bear the cost of resisting US demands. US public isn't willing to bear any costs. thepolycrisis.org/canadas-new-...

cybersecurity, innovation diffusion, and sovereignty @JensenHuang.
• The letter drew support from ecosystem figures and companies including reactions from @MarkMcQuade, @ClementDelangue,

I was just checking on the meaning of this German phrase, but AI overviews thought I was saying "see ya!" and responded in kind. I actually like this kind of diffuse, free-floating personification ...
The user typed “bis bald” as an object of inquiry: What does this phrase mean?

Google’s AI Overview treated it as an utterance addressed to it: “See you soon!”

So it replied in the same conversational register: “Tschüss!” — as if the user were leaving, not asking.

“‘It was answering questions that I hadn’t thought to ask it, with this level of deviousness & cunning that I just found chilling,’ Relman said.” 🧪
“Luckily for us, the scientist, David Relman, isn't trying to actually follow those directions. The Stanford University biosecurity expert was hired by an unnamed Al company to poke holes into its chatbot system before they released it to the public, he told the NYT.
Relman was apparently so shaken up by the results of his conversation with the chatbot that he refused to name either the specific pathogen or the company whose chatbot was involved, for fear of inspiring someone to take it for a spin The suggestions were reportedly so gruesome that the chatbot suggested ways to modify the pathogen to maximize casualties, minimize the user's chance of getting caught, and optimize the pathogen to resist known treatments.”
