Just saw someone say that if Starmer was still PM, Labour would have lost this by-election and while I don’t doubt the analysis of his personal popularity, I do feel like they’ve misunderstood the conditions necessary for a by-election to be held in his former seat.

The three big problems with the Tories’ new strategy
The Tories have finally noticed their only route back to power goes through the prosperous seats in the home counties and city suburbs lost to the Liberal Democrats and Labour.

It's become a catchphrase for Badenoch that "We have to be SERIOUS" - and she's right about that. Yet every announcement is like this: a burst whoopie-cushion of wrong numbers, bungled data and stuff someone found on Google. The gulf between rhetoric and reality is positively cavernous.

You’d have to be in thrall to the narrowest, most blinkered model of economics to believe that axeing Free Thinking and Thinking Allowed made sense. The amount of goodwill programmes like this earn from the BBC’s core supporters is way out of proportion to the pennies they cost to make.

In the end, their falling seems to be about competence and the ability to deliver for people day to day, in some form. Trump, Johnson, Orban. Lots of populism like this seems to fail because underneath, so much of it is or becomes, a giant grift and they're just not very good at governing.

Greens do 'things differently', says source over former deputy's criticism
A Green Party source has responded to earlier comments from Caroline Lucas on the party's motion at its conference over the weekend.
They say: "There are ups and downs in politics and when people are passionate they disagree in the heat of a campaign."
The source adds: "We do things differently, unlike Labour who use anonymous sources and resort to factionalism."

It is incredibly important for any debate about Man City and their ownership to actually remember that the Middle East has become incredibly important to not just Manchester, but the UK, quite probably as a result of decisions made by other govts: Austerity and Brexit in particular. This isn't new.
