Dropping a major climate report on Thursday evening before the Labour Day long weekend, with no minister available to answer questions, sends a pretty clear message: they were hoping you wouldn’t notice.
Graphic showing a Canada’s National Observer headline dated September 4, 2026: “Carney government accused of burying climate report warning of worsening impacts.” Below is a photo of Mark Carney speaking to reporters, set against a background image of a wildfire glowing orange at night. If you're wondering why authors are getting so rabid here: First Anthropic stole our books. Then we got denied compensation because of US unjust copyright law and publishers failing to meet their contractual obligations. Then publishers and agents apparently claimed author shares. Now this.

Friendly reminder that AI-detectors are AI-based tools and are *incredibly* inaccurate and unreliable 🙃 (especially tag based ones platforms use) So if you’re blocking folks based on that, you’re almost certainly blocking innocent accounts (and should be using your own discernment anyway!)

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Once more: Mamdani understands that you can't just do things in politics and expect voters will notice on their own and thank you for it. You've got to work just as hard selling yourself to voters once you're in office as you did selling yourself to them to get into office. This is the way.

the reason why we gotta be so critical of genAI usage is because the second you start letting shit slide through the more socially accepted it will become. sure, art theft and human ethics, but most importantly we are poisoning the earth with data centers because we as a society have become lazy.

When Rogers shuts down local stations, communities lose local stories and ways to stay connected to where they live. Local journalism is in the public interest. We need to protect it, fund it, and make sure communities aren't left with dead air when media conglomerates walk away.
Graphic with a black-and-white radio tower on an off-white background. Text reads: “Rogers just shut down 6 local radio stations. Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax and Kitchener are losing local broadcasts. When people lose local media, they lose ways to understand what is happening in their own community. Dead air does not serve Canadians.” Green Party logo at bottom right.Graphic with a dark green background and a black-and-white image of the Rogers building. Text reads: “Who loses when local radio disappears? Seniors who turn it on every morning. Commuters listening for local traffic and weather. Fans following their hometown team. Communities trying to hear from their leaders.” A green banner at the bottom reads: “When local journalism is left in the hands of media conglomerates, communities lose.”

Food Banks Canada’s latest report confirms what Canadians already feel: no matter how hard people work, too many still fall behind as housing, groceries, and basic needs get further out of reach. We need a government that treats poverty like the emergency it is.
Graphic from the Green Party featuring the Food Banks Canada logo and a large headline reading “Canada Receives a Failing Grade on Poverty.” Text says the latest Food Banks Canada report card shows Canada is failing across poverty measures, housing, and healthcare. A grayscale photo of Mark Carney appears beside a red D+ grade symbol. The graphic says: “When a government tells people to just work harder while refusing to fix a failing system, that’s abandonment.” Source: Food Banks Canada.

Universal Basic Income works. It works extremely well because what people need is cash, trust, and dignity, not paternalistic bureaucratic hoops to jump through to exist. And yes we can afford it because the lack of it is very costly. UBI should be seen as an investment with a large expected return.
