New opinion piece with @profjanegreen.bsky.social in @financialtimes.com ⬇️📊 We argue that five parties in the polls doesn't mean five-way races. What's really going on is a scramble within each bloc over who can win, fought out seat by seat.

As part of a job interview (yes, I finally have one) I have been asked to do a 5 minute presentation on whether the UK, at present, should introduce Electronic Voting. So, I have 5 minutes of saying "no" then 40 minutes of trying to appear like a normal human to a panel.

I use Instagram more than here. I have a 'professional' account* drkennrush. I do mini lessons, writing tips etc and mostly use it so I can keep teaching even while opportunities are slim. Might try and do some EPOP updates on it. *I have a personal one too, I have friends, honest.

Happy #EPOP2026 Week. Looking forward to seeing people in Liverpool. Here is a picture from inside The Phil, which is nearby where we will all be presenting/discussing/crying about our work, just saying.

Iceland being included in Trump's (probably hastily thumbed into AI) vision for the US has added to the fear that has been building since the Greenland Crisis. www.lemonde.fr/en/internati...

Iceland summons US ambassador after Trump posts map including island as part of US
The US president on Monday posted an image to social media with a map of North America in which countries like Canada, Greenland, Mexico, as well as Iceland were colored in with the US flag.

Another double edged academia moment, getting uplifting emails from students about upcoming dissertation projects but having to explain that you aren't a supervisor option because you aren't properly contracted. This despite you having taught there for years and having experience as a supervisor.

Found out that one of my dissertation students won the Mike Croft Prize for best dissertation. I am made up. Yet, I am also more miffed than ever, that despite my teaching and supervision now literally winning awards, that it is impossible to get a full time teaching role in Higher Education.

Answering how I "understand how the strategies and activities of the team create value and meet the diverse needs of all stakeholders" and similar jargon, genuinely makes me feel slightly nauseous. Only had to do it on EVERY APPLICATION SO FAR. LinkedInglish does my head in

Iceland 🇮🇸 appears to have voted No with regards to resuming EU accession talks. Looks like a 52.5%-47.5% split. Reykjavik was slightly more in favour of resuming talks but, like always in Iceland, the rural vote decided it, with the No vote being far more popular in rural constituencies

Seen some confusion on here today. Iceland is NOT holding a referendum on joining the EU, the question is “Should Iceland resume accession negotiations with the European Union?” This question, however, is more about Icelanders weighing sovereignty against security

If instead of FIFA rankings you used voter registration difficulty, England and Scotland would be amongst the worst (most difficult) at this World Cup.

We argue that the material (safety/security) v postmaterial distinction between sets of values falls differently for women & minorities. We use the example of women to demonstrate how this skews measurement

Norway did well to get to the World Cup, strong group performance which included battering Italy twice. They played 8 games. Iraq, however, did four rounds of Asian Football Confederation qualifiers (Groups of 6, 10, & 2 games, + playoff) then an inter-confederation playoff. 21 games (if I'm right)

World Cup is near - by FIFA rules I am eligible to represent Australia but by Australian rules I am not allowed to be an Australian citizen. Which would then rule me out of playing for the national team but the call up to the national team would also make me eligible for citizenship...I think?
