P.S. its not absurd to argue that SNAP functions like school vouchers, where private entities get to double, if not triple dip into the public purse off of programs intended to "help the poor" (walmart employees using SNAP to buy walmart groceries)

i dont agree with them, but means testing has proven to be bad, even if for entirely different reasons. Middle class people can afford to buy cars, but we don't means test the bus and metro. Instead we scale up the service so it can meet demand.

this would be a more convincing argument if people hadnt spent the last 3 decades arguing means testing encouraged people to stay poor. If the issue is a poor distribution of a limited supply, simply make the stores inconvenient for well off New Yorkers, by placing them where they don't live.

TBF this article does not entirely gloss over Musk's record in govt, but the idea that Musk was focused on reducing the deficit is contradicted by his kneecapping of IRS, which will increase the deficit by hundreds of billions. He was not some well-meaning naif who got chewed up by a corrupt DC
