Also, finally—stop pretending like you give a shit about the life, safety, or well-being of a child because we know you 100 percent do not.

Once you have a lot of money it becomes easier to get more money by doing nothing, which disincentivizes work. This is why all our billionaires post insane bullshit all day. If they had to work they'd be too busy to act like this, doubly benefiting society

I know we say this everyday, but a scandal like this would have been ruinous for any American government in the 20th century. These days Congress and SCOTUS exercise no oversight whatsoever on one party.

I would argue that it is, as of today, the raison d'être of the current American political system: To help people and make the country better? Hell no. It's to funnel money to scummy people doing scummy things.

I say this in a way not meant to demean the value of or appreciation of this type of reporting. But we write stories about this type of blatant corruption without addressing the core issue: This is the American political system functioning EXACTLY HOW IT'S DESIGNED TO FUNCTION.

There is just what they say, at that moment, when it is convenient for them, subject to revision at any time—often in seconds. It is symbolic of everything that is wrong. It's why they're ruining society. It is Orwell and Colbert's truthiness at a level of delusion neither of them even contemplated.

One side, with the historical and logical tradition of math dating back 100s of years (possibly thousands), correctly asserting, "You are wrong," and another side, without evidence, completely divorced from reality, logic, or truth, just ignoring it. In their worldview, there is NO truth. None.

The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. OOP New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!' www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...
Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:

"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.

When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

Donald Trump is deranged. He must be impeached and removed from office. Republicans who don’t stop him will have blood on their hands, and anyone who carries out an order to bomb civilian targets will be complicit in war crimes and will be held accountable.

I agree with you. But this is why the USAID situation (and others) were so damaging. They ceded that Congress's fundamental power wasn't really that important sometimes. Now trying to assert that the power with its proper stature is challenging—the whole state is a slush fund now.

Donald Trump is an unhinged warmonger and war criminal using violence for personal gain and profit, while innocent people pay the price.   Congress must reconvene to pass the War Powers Resolution. The 25th Amendment must also be invoked. Congress has to do our damn job. War powers and Impeachment.
