Trump's horrific threats against people in Iran continue. Trump's war on Iran is already a disaster -- illegal, immoral, and destructive. Congress shouldn't give him another dime to continue it, and must rein him in before he makes good on his threats to turn it into a genocide.

It looks years for Dems to start using antiwar messages in their campaign ads after Iraq. It's taken months on Iran. Full story via @punchbowlnews.bsky.social here: punchbowl.news/article/defe...
Dem attacks mount. Josh Turek, the Democratic Senate nominee in Iowa, hammered his opponent Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) for opposing the resolution.

“While others said enough is enough, Ashley Hinson, Iowa’s least bipartisan member of Congress, voted to continue the war in Iran for a 7th time,” Turek said in a post on X.

Explicit mentions of Iran in campaign ads are increasing.

WinSenate, a Democratic group aligned with Senate Majority PAC, unveiled a $4.5 million ad campaign tying Michigan GOP Senate nominee Mike Rogers to the Iran war in late August.

Will Lawrence, who’s hoping to flip the Michigan seat held by Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), said in his first general election ad that Barrett “spent billions for a war in Iran while our neighbors can’t afford their housing and healthcare.” (Barrett has supported several war powers resolutions to end operations in Iran.)

There are few more entrenched beliefs in DC's natsec elite than "escalating to deescalate." Trump may be a radical departure from many, many norms, but when it comes to trying to bomb his way to peace, he's decidedly conventional (and catastrophically wrong). via Axios: www.axios.com/2026/07/17/t...
The big picture: Among the options being considered are bombing Iranian infrastructure facilities like power plants, conducting more attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities in order to bury Iran's enriched uranium even deeper, and bombing the Pickaxe Mountain underground site that is suspected to be a facility in the making.

Trump hasn't made a final decision yet, but he appears willing to escalate the war to cause enough damage that the Iranian regime will open the Strait of Hormuz and accept Trump's nuclear demands.
Trump could order an escalation in the coming days, U.S. and Israeli officials say.

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar urging colleagues to vote YES on Massie & Khanna's amendment cutting aid to Israel. "The American people are crying out for an end to US tax dollars subsidizing Israel's military." Comes as party leadership announces opposition to the amendment.
July 14, 2026
Dear Colleagues:
I am writing to explain why I will vote yes on Rep. Thomas Massie’s Amendment 8 to the
National Security, Department of State and Related Programs Appropriation Act.
I am proud that the Progressive Caucus has endorsed the Block the Bombs Act to cut off
weapons the Israeli military uses to kill civilians in Gaza, and I believe a yes vote is most
consistent with that position.
I understand many people have good faith concerns that this amendment would impact
non-military funding. I want to be clear about the facts here. This amendment would block $3.3
billion in offensive military aid and about $50 million in non-military funding. In other words,
98.5% of the funding is for the military. While I wish we could vote on an amendment targeted
just to military aid, and of course support humanitarian programs, we do not have that option.
The American people are crying out for an end to US tax dollars subsidizing Israel’s military. At
a time when millions are struggling to make ends meet, we are sending billions of dollars to a
military that has killed tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon,
destabilized the region, and helped lead us into war with Iran. Over the weekend, the Israeli
military detained a member of Congress attempting to conduct oversight in the West Bank. We
cannot continue to subsidize this.
I am aware House Democratic leadership has a different position on this amendment. I
appreciate that they have facilitated open conversations on this issue and avoided whipping a
no vote. I respect their leadership.
At its best, the Progressive Caucus’ role is to be an independent voice and lead on important
issues of peace and human rights. After the Israeli government has killed more than 70,000
people in Gaza and helped lead the United States into a destabilizing, deadly war with Iran, we
are called to act.
The Democratic Party needs a new approach to Israel and Palestine. When Democrats retake
the majority in…

A report on the ground from the ICE shooting in Biddeford that should make every parent in this country lose their minds:
Cecelia Humiston, 22, lives on Chapel Street. She was asleep with her two-year-old son when she woke up to the sounds of a commotion on surrounding streets.

When she went to investigate, she saw what appeared to be a person lying on the ground on Pool Street.

She remembers hearing an older woman with a distressed family, yelling, “You took her dad, you took her dad!”

“They were with a little girl, she couldn't have been older than three,” Humiston said. “She was still in her Bluey pajamas.”

Humiston described law enforcement as “rude,” and said they barricaded family’s car from leaving. Another yelled at the little girl, who was trying to smell flowers.

Our statement on today's historic vote to end Donald Trump's disastrous war on Iran:
Congress Votes: Trump’s Iran War Must End Now

Washington – In response to the Senate’s passage of House Concurrent Resolution 86, a War Powers Resolution to remove U.S. forces from hostilities against Iran, Win Without War Government Relations Director Eric Eikenberry released the following statement:

“Today, Congress decided: President Trump’s war on Iran must end immediately. With today's historic Senate vote, Congress has for the first time passed a bicameral, concurrent resolution exercising its inherent Article I authority to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities.

“Lawmakers who voted in favor of this resolution were merely enacting the will of their constituents. Large majorities across the country have long agreed that this war should never have started, and that it must be brought to an end now. The message is clear: Trump has lost the confidence of the country and the Congress, and his reckless warmaking must be reined in.

“As the U.S.-Iran ceasefire takes shape and Trump’s overdue turn to diplomacy provides people in Iran and across the Middle East some relief, the president’s outrageous threats to return to fighting only underscore the urgent need for congressional action.

“Having ordered Trump to end the war, Congress must now press the point home. No one who voted for this resolution should vote to authorize one more dime for this war. Instead, they should repeat the message today’s vote sends to the White House: end this war, or Congress will end it for you.”
