🧵The Whipple Building in south Minneapolis is a torture facility. If this occupation is ever over and if we are restored to our rights, the state of Minnesota must reclaim the land, raze that building, and erect a monument and museum to memorialize this war against Minnesota and its people. 1/4
Screenshot of Minnesota Star Tribune newspaper article. Text:

No humanity: Detainees describe conditions inside Whipple federal building

Immigration sweep brings overcrowded rooms and overflowing toilets. Lawyers say they can't visit their clients. The Department of Homeland Security says "all detainees receive full due process."Packed 'shoulder to shoulder'
After the young Muslim woman spent nearly 24 hours locked in the bathroom with the three men, agents moved her to a different locked bathroom in the building's base-ment, she said.
When she had her period, agents told her to use toilet paper. When she felt dizzy and vomited twice, agents did not grant her request for medical care. When they gave her a sandwich, she didn't eat it, fearing it contained pork.
After her release, the Star Tribune visited the young Muslim woman at the sparsely decorated apartment where she lives with her mother. She recounted how federal agents tailed her after she dropped her mother off at work in mid-January. Afraid to drive home, she parked in a busy area, she said. Two agents knocked on her window, asked for identification and detained her.
While the Star Tribune was unable to independently verify some details of her detainment, much of her account about conditions at Whipple is consistent with descriptions from other interviews and court filings. Many detainees requested anonymity, fearing retribution.Separate cells for citizens
U.S. citizens, many detained while protesting, said they were kept separate from and treated differently than immigrants.
Will Vermie said he landed in Whipple on Jan. 13 after observing the detainment of two young men across his south Minneapolis street.
Agents started pushing observers, telling them to get off the sidewalk, he said. An agent grabbed Vermie's arms, and the two lost their balance and fell to a heap. Four agents handcuffed Vermie and tossed him in an SUV.
For 8 hours at Whipple, the 39-year-old U.S. Army veteran said he stayed in a small cell for citizens. Seven more U.S. citizens were brought in. Some were bleeding, and told im they had been roughed up in detainment. They were given water but no food, he said, except when a guard brought fruit snacks to one man with low blood sugar.
Lawyers were given access only after providing the full name of a detainee, he said. So Vermie memorized the names of four detainees. When he was released without charges at 6 p.m., he gave those names to an attorney outside.

I have now seen multiple groups who have taken it upon themselves/their social groups to re-create the historical signs that the federal gov't took down in Philly yesterday. The best way to get people to spread a message (especially in this anti-authority, fuck-you town), is to try to censor it.

Dear Chancellors:
I'm writing with regard to the President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP) and the program's associated faculty hiring incentive.
As you know, for more than 40 years, PPFP has provided postdoctoral research fellowships, professional development, and faculty mentoring to scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service advance the academic and research missions of the University of California.
Since 2003, UC campuses that hire current and former PPFP fellows into ladder-rank positions have been eligible for a hiring incentive funded by the University that provides support for newly hired fellows for five years. Since the creation of the incentive, more than $162 million has been invested by the University to support PPFP faculty hires. This commitment has enabled our campuses to successfully recruit and retain outstanding faculty across a range of disciplines.
Given the myriad challenges currently facing UC - including disruptions to billions of dollars in annual federal support, as well as uncertainty around the state budget- reasonable questions were raised in recent months about whether the University could maintain the commitment to current levels of incentive funding. After considering a recommendation to sunset the incentive program due to these significant fiscal constraints, I consulted with all of you as well as faculty and campus academic administrators and systemwide Academic Senate leadership.
[continued on next image]After learning more about the history and success of the program and weighing the thoughtful perspectives that have been shared, I have concluded that barring extraordinary financial setbacks, the PPFP faculty hiring incentive program will continue while the University continues to assess the program's structure as well as its long-term financial sustainability. As a result of our continuing consultation and review, there may be consideration of some changes to elements of the program including the total number of incentives supported, a number that has fluctuated significantly over the years, and how the awards are distributed among campuses. In the meantime, the University will continue to fund the PPFP faculty hiring incentive program and campuses may continue to take advantage of these incentives. We will have an opportunity to discuss any potential changes prior to adoption.
As we look to the future, I will continue to engage with faculty leaders, program stakeholders, and UC community members about this important program. I especially appreciate the thoughtful perspectives shared in recent weeks by Academic Council Chair Palazoglu and Vice Chair Scott, the Council of Graduate Deans, UC faculty members, and you as our campus leaders.

Sincerely,
James B. Milliken
President
