2 yrs ago. Strong aurora hit during a full moon. The bright moon is almost always an aurora killer unless the aurora is super strong like it was here. If conditions are perfect, it turns into the best natural lighting for pictures. Check out the upside down 💚 heart in 3rd pic.

Bortle 1 sky (rare, darkest light pollution rating) hits hardest at high elevation It was so dark that I was able to use the Milky Way as a backdrop w just my phone camera 🌌 Brockway Mountain, Copper Harbor, Michigan. Last Friday. 700ft abv Lake Superior Scary drive back down in the dark lol 😬

Alley between 1st Ave & 2nd Ave in downtown Minneapolis. This was the loading dock behind Prince 90s nightclub Glam Slam. He filmed "My Name Is Prince" 🎬 here Glam Slam turned into The Quest. I waited in this alley to catch countless rock stars leaving the club after shows in early 2000s

The biggest boat on the entire Mississippi River, 450ft Viking Mississippi, arrived in downtown St. Paul at same time that I did. As I pulled up, it was perpendicular across river & I could not figure out what I was looking at. For like 2 sec I thought aliens landed 👽⛴️ (it was docking)

2 years ago tonight. Incredible aurora hit as I pulled into Moose Lake State Park. My neck was hurting from looking up so I grabbed blanket from the car and just laid in the road for hours. It was so bright and intense you can see the green reflecting off the dirt road and my car. Danced all night.

Gonna try for meteor 📸 tonight. Peak is technically overnight tomorrow but tonight should be 👍 too. Never been lucky catching meteor photos. I have this one photo from 4 yrs ago. Hiked 1hr to abandoned farm, set up, got this fireball tail on first photo of night. Haven't captured good one since🤞

Sitting in middle Wisconsin northwoods farmland last night, 2am, looking for meteors. All of sudden huge, slow, drone floats by, maybe 50ft up, interrupting pristine night sounds. Dissappeared quickly but it really fcked vibe up. The surveillance future is inescapable even where we go to escape.

🐺 Coyote strolling Mounds Blvd at Wicaḣapi Regional Park aka Indian Mounds. That's a bigger one. I've seen them in St. Paul for few years. Always late night close to Mississippi River. Entire river corridor from Shepard Rd/Hwy 5 to Sci Museum, Mounds and Pig's Eye. It is the perfect urban 🐺 habitat.

After years of partial outages & deterioration, the iconic 1st National Bank sign is finally back on! The iconic 90 yr old sign in St. Paul, MN underwent restoration & tonight was the night they flipped switch. Skyline is back to normal. I caught just in time but I wasnt expecting fireworks! 🚨🎆🥳

Clouded out for impact here in MN but the pros who have much more powerful telescopes & clear sky... saw nothing 🤷‍♂️ LOL. I have a feeling trajectory calculation was off just enough to move impact over the limb out of view. Oh well. Here's the moon thru my telescope after sky cleared 45 min later.

📢 Kinda wild astronomical event tonight: A spent 4-ton SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket stage is crashing into Moon near Einstein Crater at 5,400 mph! I'm hoping to catch vid/pics of dust plume rising over lunar limb with my 🔭! Impact: ~1:35am CDT. It'd be awesome if I can get it. We'll see. Stay tuned!🤞🚀🌚

Too early to get excited (3 hrs until dark in Minnesota) however, there is potential for aurora after dark if this maintains until 10pm. That BZ dip into the red is what we were hoping for. That means she's charging up but it needs to stay negative for at least few more hrs. We'll see! 👀🤞

When I was little I would collect sea glass from Lake Superior. I had 1 gallon ziplock STUFFED full of blue, green, brown. I want it for some projects now but I dont know what happened to it. It was easy to find handfuls after an hour on shore in 90s but is it still that easy?? I dont think it is 😢

Mystic Lake Amphitheater shows come w elevated view of sunsets over the MN River Valley. I like that. However, depending on shows timing, I see potential for it to be annoying to be facing west on a clear summer day? We'll see. I like the place. This is a great GA section w panoramic views.
