Because of gender and ethnic pay gaps in Aotearoa, Pacific women are now working for free until the end of the year. This election year, we need to vote for pay equity. It’s the only way to make sure that all working people are respected, valued, and paid what they’re owed. #nzpol

"Iran's health ministry urges masks as COVID-19 cases rise" 🔸COVID positivity has reached 17.4%, after increasing for 5 straight weeks—nearly double the 8.9% seen a year ago. 🔸The increase is being driven by the XFG Omicron subvariant.
An image featuring an online news article header from INTELLINEWS, dated September 30, 2026.
Image Structure & Design
•	Header Logo: At the top center, a bright yellow rectangular banner contains a black triangular logo resembling layered geometric lines. Next to it, the text reads "INTELLINEWS" in bold capital letters, with a smaller tagline underneath: "20 Years Tracking Tomorrow's Transforming Markets".
•	Main Headline: Below the logo banner, a clear black headline reads: "Iran's health ministry urges masks as COVID-19 cases rise".
•	Central Visual: A large, detailed 3D digital illustration of a coronavirus particle sits against a dark grey background. The spherical virus structure is grey and covered with prominent, textured red spike proteins, interspersed with smaller orange and yellow surface proteins.
•	Footer Details: At the bottom left, there is a row of social media sharing icons (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, Flipboard, and a green share icon). Directly underneath, the author and date are listed in red and black text: "By bne IntelliNews September 30, 2026". The bottom right corner features small image caption text duplicating the headline and crediting bne IntelliNews.

Even with increased staffing, if we don’t improve public health across a broad range of areas (vaccination, masking, air filtration, poverty elimination, employment conditions, housing, environment, etc.), what is currently “exceptional demand” will become out-of-this-world demand in the future.

#nzpol New data from Stats NZ shows us that pay gaps in Aotearoa are widening. Our world-leading pay equity system was closing those gaps – and then the National-led Government gutted it without warning. This election year, we need to vote for pay equity.
Purple campaign graphic titled “WORKING FOR FREE CALENDAR” with a flower emblem reading “Respect Us, Value Us, Pay Us.” Text lists dates when different demographic groups are effectively working unpaid due to the pay gap: Pacific women (1 Oct), Pacific men (18 Oct), Māori women (20 Oct), Asian women (21 Oct), MELAA women (2 Nov), Māori men (9 Nov), and Pākehā women (20 Nov). Footnote explains dates are based on average (mean) wage gaps compared with Pākehā men and notes mean figures better reflect workforce diversity. Logos: NZCTU Te Kauae Kaimahi, Still Minding the Gap, YWCA, and PECA.

I’ve agreed to help out with running the 2027 annual Spearfishing NZ Catfish Cull in Lake Taupo (13 Feb). Catfish are an invasive pest so this is a way spearos can help. Register here: spearfishingnz.netlify.app/catfish
Spears Ready?

The Rosemergy Catfish Cull is SNZ's annual freshwater pest removal event held at Motuoapa on Lake Taupō. Catfish are an invasive pest species that damage the lake's ecosystem — the cull is a practical kaitiakitanga event that combines competitive spearfishing with meaningful environmental action.

Hawaiian slings and pole spears only are permitted, keeping the event true to traditional freediving spearfishing. All fish harvested are removed from the lake, contributing directly to the health of the Taupō fishery.

Shore diving — fully accessible to all, no boat required

Early Bird pricing available this year

The top placing in each division of the Cull earns a spot on the NZ Freshwater Worlds team at Beaver Lake in 2028Pic of a catfish (invasive pest in NZ)
