P values do not say anything about “something unobserved”. They tell you how often you would see the value you are observing if only pure chance were allowed to operate, assuming every assumption you made were correct and importantly: that you didn’t make any errors or mistakes in your experiment.

The authors don’t understand what a p-value is. While I don’t know the tools used specifically, I am almost certain that the error estimation is wildly wrong. l don’t really know or care if Erin Reed uses AI in writing, but it’s very obvious that this is just… not credible on its face.

Finally, most of these p-values are so large because we have a massive sample size available to work with. When you have something like 750,000 words and hundreds of articles, the p values for something that is actually a trend within such a large dataset gets astronomical. P-values are the probability that random chance or something unobserved could explain the hypothesis equally well as the tested explanation.
Every p value below indicates the odds of the same author writing in the same style and making such different groups of work. For example, the difference between pasted sentence or paragraph lengths at this sample size leads to such a p value.

I am between 5’9” & 5’10” & am wearing 3” heels in the pic iirc. She was wearing 1-1.5” heels. So she has to be 5’11”-6’0. Our bass player, Angie is from Sacramento & played local shows with her 15-20 years ago. One of the first things she said to me when I showed her this was “Chelsea is sooo tall”

This part stuck out to me because a) yeah, gaining critical mass to normalize bigotry has been the goal of the anti-trans side the entire time and b) that's a crazy thing to say anonymously

Worth noting that the Title IX rules that were rescinded didn't include protections for trans student athletes, because Biden withdrew that part on his way out of office. That didn't stop McMahon from framing it that way though.

The Biden administration on Dec. 20 withdrew a proposed rule that would have extended Title IX protections to transgender student athletes, acknowledging that public sentiment and legal challenges made finalizing the rule too difficult.

“It’s exactly how we enforce Title IX,” McMahon said in a video released over the weekend. “It was boys in boys sports and girls in girls sports, and now the Biden rules and regulations are being rescinded and it is a full return to the Trump administration’s Title IX ruling, as has been upheld by many courts.”
