Went out to support a friend’s band last night. Things were a little weird because there were people there who definitely do not like me very much. Also a very drunk straight girl really wanted me to dance to music I do not care for. But I looked—and apparently smelled?—great, so 🤷‍♀️.

Hahaha. Love how I can re-read these for the first time in 20 years and find Seneca’s 2nd chorus saying that no one can mourn enough for Trojan women, not even those crazy Cybele-worshipping t-slurs. Thanks for keeping it classy, Lucius.

Thinking about this from the interview I did with Tape.Wounds a bit ago. I hate that a Nazi loving white dude who is credibly accused of abusing & raping girls still gets to go out & play large venues, but anyone marginalized gets axed for shit that isn’t within 3 orders of magnitude of it.

focus on those in the music scene separately from those in the wider world. It is really tough to make music if you're more likely to end up homeless at some point in your life.
It is really tough to make and promote music when you're 2-4 times more likely to be unemployed or you only make 60 cents on the dollar compared to the typical worker. It is really tough to make music if you have to raise thousands of dollars to flee the state you live in due to intolerance and oppression. It is really hard to plan a DIY tour when you have to map out which hospitals have banned your healthcare so you can make sure you don't end up in one of them in case of something like a car wreck. It is really tough to have to weigh the

opportunity of playing indie music festivals in anti-trans states against the possibility of prison time for using the bathroom.
When I think about the scene in particular think a lot about how l wish we could have fewer double standards. I have heard people in the local scene or those associated with indie labels talk about bands that are
'difficult' or 'pushy' or 'prima donnas. Then I meet those bands or play shows with them, and they just happen to be women or people of color or queer folks who approach music like professionals and expect to be treated like professionals. I think about how widely-lauded projects centering marginalized people can get dropped from their

label over intra-band conflicts that as far as I can tell wouldn't get nearly that level of reaction if all the members of the group were straight white dudes.

Birthday weekend has been fun. Despite a sound engineer who was either tripping or having an episode on Friday, we had a lot of laughs and a great time playing. Doublewish are legitimately rad performers and people. I highly recommend catching them if they swing through your town.
