Sometimes I think about where we would be as a culture today if #MeToo in 2017 had radicalized more straight men into fighting sexual abuse instead of creating a culture of "oh god don't get me CANCELED" and "fake accusations" paranoia and resentment

This isn’t coddling MAHA cranks, this is an evidence-driven pro-vaccine person who believes he can win someone over. This is politics.
Asked about the vaccine dynamic, El-Sayed said he believes he can win over MAHA voters despite differing views on the issue.
"I will always be evidence-driven when it comes to vaccines," El-Sayed said. "But the key thing is that you want to know that what you're feeding your kids and what you're putting in the body is pure. And
RFK Jr. and Donald Trump and Mike Rogers have failed that test in droves."

don’t get headline sniped, these are standard plans from a liberal/progressive policy standpoint.
The platform, dubbed the Building A Healthier America Policy Agenda, takes aim at pesticides in food, backing legislation that would give people the right to sue pesticide manufacturers over harm caused by the products. It seeks accountability for polluters, with a pledge to get industry lobbyists out of regulatory agencies. And it aims to get substances such as lead and microplastics out of water, in part by strengthening federal drinking water rules. It also proposes investments in school meal programs and grocery stores on wheels.

from this:
Haliax1d

4th year med student reporting in.
Had a rotation with a pediatrician where we ended up in the classic encounter with an anti-vaccination parent.

This lady was a conspiracy theory magnet. She casually mentioned everything from 9/11 to chemtrails. Of course she loved the idea of the vaccine conspiracy as well, opting to not protect her one year old to stick it to big pharma.
I relayed all of this to my attending after my exam (I would see the patient first, gather history and do my exam to present to my attending physician). He got this sort of lazy smirk on his face that screamed "watch this".

We go back into the exam room and we cover all of the important bits of a well-child encounter. Growth charts, behavioral milestones, nutrition, sleep...
And then we get to vaccines. She lists approximately 15 reasons why vaccines are more dangerous than the disease they protect against (lol) in addition to the various evils of the pharmaceutical industry.

My attending listens quietly until she's done with her soapbox (about one eternity later), and then interjects with:
"Have you considered the possibility that anti-vaccine propaganda could be an attempt by the Russians or the Chinese to weaken the health of the United States population?"

In a moment of catastrophic cognitive dissonance, I swear I heard a strange popping noise as her brain misfired. It actually broke her. The allure of the increasingly ridiculous conspiracy theory was just too strong.

She ended up agreeing to a modified vaccine schedule. I was flabbergasted. My attending just grinned at me in response. To this day I'm not sure the medical ethics of the situation are totally palatable, but goddamn the result was amazing.

this is a pattern, not only across the history of Trump Administrations, but across US immigration policing. Terror followed by outrage followed by a steady hum of violence that appears normal by comparison to what preceded it. I don‘t think it “climaxed” but it‘s important to stay focused.

alihazelwood THE TWO-BODY PROBLEM: Out
February 2, 2027

Ali says:
Friends! Hi!
"I wrote a sequel to The Love Hypothesis" is not a sentence I thought I'd say a year or so ago, but now l weirdly can't imagine a world in which The Two-Body Problem doesn't exist. I'm really eager to talk more about this book and how it came about in the next few months. For now let me just say that the TLH movie and its cast made me fall for Adam and Olive all over again, that revisiting them was an absolute pleasure, and that I am delighted to show you the amazing cover that @lilith_saur illustrated (I can't believe she and I go back almost a decade by now o)
As someone who gets VERY attached to stories and characters, I know that unannounced sequels can be blindsiding, so feel free to skip this book and overwrite it with whatever headcanon you prefer, and I'll see you on the next one! But if you want to read more about Adam and Olive, The Two-Body Problem spans a couple of years, and it's a mix of slice of life, postdoctoral turmoil, and unflinching exploration of the hardest challenge one will face in a long-term relationship: deciding what to have for dinner. If you pick it up, I really hope you enjoy
And: nothing is guaranteed, but MRC is developing a film based on the The Two-Body Problem for Amazon MGM Studios.
