I remembered a discarded chapter 1 draft from very early on in working on my WIP that I'd abandoned. Different MC, different setting, same world. I went back and read it again and... you know, I liked it. Now that I'm a more confident writer, I'm going to give it another shot. #weeknightwriters

Unexpected news yesterday that I'm taking a lot harder than I would have thought. Not *bad* news, just a blow to the self-esteem. I've been doing a lot better with the self-esteem lately, so taking that knock was pretty disorienting. Wanted to write last night, but failed. Again. #weeknightwriters

I'm struggling to write the last third of this book for real for the 1st time. Some of it's nerves. Some of it's time. I've been ridiculously busy. Need to just sit in the chair and write it badly so I can fix it later. Gotta keep swimming until I can ride the wave into shore. #weeknightwriters.

Had a big picture idea for a short story, couldn't get it written. Got a little bit done as the answer to a prompt. Got stuck. Then I heard a song and thought, "That's it! That's the story! They're performing THAT SONG, it hits all the right notes (pun intended)"... #weeknightwriters

#WeeknightWriters I became a published author. My debut novel, Savage as You, came out Tuesday. I'm genuinely so proud of how it came out. Every time I look at my book on my record stand I smile. It looks so much better than I pictured in my head initially. A lot of work.

Remember to take a breath now and again. Being able to focus for the first time maybe ever has been incredible, but I'm starting to get an inkling of what this mythical "hyperfocus" people sometimes talk is like. I need to have faith I won't crater if I stop for a few minutes. #weeknightwriters

I'm teaching the same course I taught last fall. Last fall's version was a slog. Students wouldn't interact with me or each other. From day one, this group of students has been enthusiastic and interactive. They answer questions, they ask questions. It's what I love about teaching. #weeknightwriters

I've been too busy to think about the world being on fire, which I guess is some sort of coping mechanism? For the first time I can remember though, being busy = getting things done, not 'I'm so far underwater that I'm getting eaten by weird fish'. So that's definitely a good. #weeknightwriters

We pretend that academia is this incredibly unique sort of workplace but at the end of the day it's a job, your boss is your boss, and they're responsible for their actions and the consequences of them. "Don't do anything to your staff that means the union need to get involved" should be universal.

This could have just stopped at “no point in having a columnist”. If someone wants to spout low-info opinions with no interest in telling the whole story with a shred of compassion, the internet is loaded with sites that just eat that stuff up. We’re better off without opinion pieces in the papers.
