#weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall The main character is a file clerk in the Galactic Investigation Service. They're supposed to route the files properly, not look at them. But an entity gets bored. The more files they peek at, the more they see connections that no one else pays attention to.

Exactly. I can come up with some initial ideas, no problem, but until I write about them -- even if it's just freewriting a random scene -- I can't get into their head enough to define how they would act. #weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall

I can't make it all the way through a draft without an outline of story beats and at least an idea of the main character(s). I'm realizing I can't start with the outline though. The ideas don't come easily that way. I have to write first and see what comes out. #weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall

I think I need to try this. I've come to realize that I need an outline, but I have such a hard time *starting* with an outline. I don't KNOW all that stuff yet, and starting with character outlines just... doesn't click. I learn my characters through prose. #weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall

#weeknightwriters Huh. Good question. Planning-wise, I'm looking more at milestones. Outline progress (beats determined), worldbuilding progress, character sheets etc. Drafting, word count all the way for the first draft. I gotta put the Internal Editor in the closet and just make words.

#weeknightwriters I seem to be getting the most traction from my least developed idea (X-Files In Space!), so I'm leaning that way right now. Trying to build a reading resource list to help me construct an outline for a mystery, which I've never written before, but I'm excited to try.

Jules here. I think I wrote about 150 words on the WIP. I know any progress is progress, but it's not satisfactory progress and that has been making me grumpy. FDF planning? Well, I'm trying to decide between four projects, which is about 3 more than I usually have in mind. #weeknightwriters

I finished Sylvain Neuvel's Waking Gods (book 2 of his Themis Files trilogy) over the weekend and I swear, I never expect the endings of these books (which is fantastic, btw). Just started Melissa Caruso's Last Soul Among Wolves last night. I enjoy her writing style so much.

I remembered a discarded chapter 1 draft from very early on in working on my WIP that I'd abandoned. Different MC, different setting, same world. I went back and read it again and... you know, I liked it. Now that I'm a more confident writer, I'm going to give it another shot. #weeknightwriters

Unexpected news yesterday that I'm taking a lot harder than I would have thought. Not *bad* news, just a blow to the self-esteem. I've been doing a lot better with the self-esteem lately, so taking that knock was pretty disorienting. Wanted to write last night, but failed. Again. #weeknightwriters
