Why are there three women pictured? Because the publisher of this paper wants to do everything it can to make sure the woman on the left can manage to win out and the woman in the center doesn't.
Sunday edition of the Nashville daily paper, owned and published by Gannett, a publicly traded corporation. There are three women on the ballot for Governor of Tennessee (and 13 total candidates, so) but only two of these three have a realistic chance, and Blackburn's chances remain real because all the dumb shitheels in my state can throw votes at one woman or ten men not named Jerri Green in opposition.

All manufacturing jobs might be defensible if you live in a bubble. But the idea that all services jobs are currently structured for ai agents is just irreconcilable with reality.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

It’s funny now to remember that the War On Terror was described at the time as a war of ideas, as The Great Intellectual Struggle Of Our Time. Endless essays and speeches on this very theme, and all of it straight into the memory bin as soon as it became clear we had disastrously fucked it and lost.

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

RIP Dolly Parton.

Never met her, never interviewed her (despite decades of unrequited requests) but thought she was utterly fabulous in every way.

Any kid (broadest possible definition) with an instrument and a look and something they have to say is Rock and Roll.

"Something to say" can be anything, and when you're young sometimes the thing you feel most compelled to say most frequently is just feelings in the "ooh baby" lane, but that's Rock and Roll.

Anyway, some current personifications of Rock and Roll include:

Grace Bowers
Die Shiny
Candi Carpenter
Girl Group
SpaceAcre
Talon
Dossey
The Blushes
Upsahl
Semisweet
Emi Grace
The Lily Robinsons
Juliet the Band
Sweetmelk
Earth to Eve
Irene's Entropy
