In 1833 in Mold, Wales, labourers discovered a skeleton in a grave. This highly decorated, beautiful gold cape was found with the body. The age & sex of the person is unknown though the cape is very small so it may have been a slight woman or child. The owner was high status 🕰️1900-1600BC 🏛️BM 📷 mine

Can you imagine the derisory coverage and outright mockery if any other party with single-digit MPs decided to "declare a General Election" and go on a bus tour? Yet when this outlandish nonsense comes from Farage, it is treated as somehow brilliant. "Subscribe to continue..." No thanks. I'm good.

Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.

No amount of money can buy you popularity. For every person who likes Farage, there are 2 or 3 who really loathe him. The number against him might even go up, the richer he gets. He simply cannot make people like him. And we will not change our minds. We’ll do whatever we can to make him fail.

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)
You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.

You can’t fly in without a Visa, and you cannot apply for asylum until you’re physically in the country. If you fly in on a holiday Visa and then apply for asylum that’s a criminal offence and your asylum claim is immediately rejected. So they have no choice. Which the fat man knows well.
