Needed this reminder today.
Fox Mulder from X-Files saying “Hey, you got to stay alive if you want to stick it to the government”“If you die, you let them off the hook.”

Book legolas is a little oddball and I love him ♡ #lordoftherings #legolas #tolkien #lotr
Artist interpretation of legolas based off of book description. He has asked blonde hair and freckles, has a nervous or awkward expression, is sat twiddling thumbs as if in the council of elrond. Wearing a dagged snood with a leaf pattern, green tunic and silken wideleg pants tucking into gilt boots knee high, the boots have a gold leaf patten around the cuff

Part of adulthood is learning to discern when your feelings & opinions simply don't matter. You can have them, but you can't use them as bludgeons to control what other people do. Your emotions are your responsibility & so is figuring out when they're out of proportion & how to manage that.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

no more posting about any of those “writing routines of famous writers” unless it’s Edmund White’s
“he wrote: “I thought it was quite normal to take a break from writing at two in the morning, saunter down to the piers, and have sex with 20 men in a truck”

Today’s #5amwritersclub via Ray Bradbury.
If you did not write every day, the poisons would accumulate and you would begin to die, or act crazy, or both. You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.

Allow me to address the elephant in the room: The decades-long outsourcing of domestic manufacturing to China was not an insidious Chinese conspiracy for dominance but the greedy strategy of the American ruling class to explode its profit margins by exploiting global inequality.

Reading 9/16 Realm of the Elderlings books in ~5 wks has made me lose my marbles in the best way. Not sure I'd necessarily RECOMMEND this pace but jfc the emotional payoff of the 3rd trilogy is wild. It's been the kind of reading experience I used to have as a kid, plowing rabidly through books

The Japanese artist Masayo Fukuda hand-cut this incredible life-sized octopus from one sheet of paper. Known as Kirie in Japanese (translated as “cut picture”), the traditional art form involves cutting intricate forms from a single sheet of white paper and contrasting it against a dark background.
