Holy shit, this Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge found "AI" bullshit in briefs filed by the lawyers in this case and was having utterly and completely None Of It. Fucking *Love* to see it.
JOHN K. BUSH, Circuit Judge. These consolidated appeals concern several lawsuits filed over an incident at the annual fireworks show hosted by the City of Athens, Tennessee, in 2022, and the subsequent fallout. By separate opinion issued this date, we affirm the district court in all respects.

This opinion addresses the misconduct of Glenn Whiting’s lawyers, Van Irion and Russ Egli, in their briefing before this court and the sanctions we impose for it. That briefing repeatedly misrepresented the record, cited non-existent cases, and cited cases for propositions of law that they did not even discuss, much less support. As explained below, Irion’s and Egli’s misconduct warrants the sanctions laid out in Section II.C.

🧵 It is important to point out that the first concentration camps in Nazi Germany were very similar to these. The so-called "wild camps" were located in all kinds of diverse locations (basements, warehouses, even boats.). They were characterized by varying levels of violence and almost no oversight.

In the concentration camp universe, this is what's known as a filtration camp. A government preemptively takes a whole class of people to interrogate and detain extrajudicially in order to inflict duress on them while arbitrarily assessing their (supposed) culpability.

Sure sounds familiar! From Robert O. paxton, Anatomy of Fascism (Vintage, 2004), p. 142.
In fascist states, individual rights had no autonomous existence. The State of Law—the Rechtsstaat, the état de droit—vanished, along with the principles of due process by which citizens were guaranteed equitable treatment by courts and state agencies. A suspect acquitted in a German court of law could be rearrested by agents of the regime at the courthouse door and put in a concentration camp without any further legal procedure. A fascist regime could imprison, Deadpool, and even kill it's inhabitants at will and without limitation. All else pales before that radical transformation in the relation of citizens to public power.

This is, of course, nonsense; the problem is simply that when some people talk about the United States and say “no other country’s leader does this“, they are still thinking of other countries like France not Turkmenistan.
“No other country has a president who slaps his own name onto famous landmarks he had absolutely nothing to do with. Nobody renamed the Eiffel Tower the Macron Tower. That level of ego simply does not exist anywhere else.“

Good to see the U.S. and Ukraine agree to a joint peace plan. However, this plan is irrelevant. Russia never proposed a legitimate plan. The 28 point “Dim-Witt” plan was an influence operation rather than a plan for a just and lasting peace.

In March of 1945, the US Army issued this "fact sheet" to guide conversations with soldiers on the topic of fascism, paying particular attention to the ongoing threat that domestic fascist movements posed to the US. Their analysis of what a homegrown US fascism would look like is interesting.

WAR DEPARTMENT-WASHINGTON 25, D. C. • 24 March 1945 FASCISM!
Note For This Week's Discussion:
Fascism is not the easiest thing to identify and analyze; nor, once in power, is it easy to destroy. It is important for our future and that of the world that as many of us as possible understand the causes and practices of fascism, in order to combat it. Points to stress are: (1) Fascism is more apt to come to power at a time of economic crisis;
(2) fascism inevitably leads to war; (3) it can come to any country; (4) we can best combat it by making our democracy work.
