This is exactly why I have never bought that Trump doesn't actually believe in the lawless authoritarian things he does. If he were only interested in the trappings of the office & the personal monetization of it, he could easily have gotten away with that & been far more popular w/o the fascism.

I’m old enough to remember when Reagan met Gorbachev in Geneva in 1985 and didn’t wear an overcoat despite the cold so he wouldn’t look like an old man. And Gorb came out of the car dressed in his overcoat. Was a great visual for the youthful seeming Reagan. This not so much for Trump.

Two notes here: 1. Hard to convey how unusual it is for an admin to be pitted against this many religious groups in *so many different ways* all at the same time in court. The Trump admin is an outlier here. 2. I’m a religion reporter, but unclear why this trend hasn’t gotten more attention.
