I think Greg is correct, but Americans need to be aware that Magyar’s Tisza government is aggressively going after every Fidesz official, removing them, using every lever of the state to yank them out of power. This is far more aggressive and rapid than anything proposed in the US so far.

As this thread explains, rightwing billionaires are shoveling millions of dollars to displace a system of knowledge and education that has almost no support, and yet still that lose when the terrain is even. Humanistic scholarship can withstand this assault as long as it gets more support.

This is a very important point. The intellectual work that the right is trying to finance is shoddy and would not withstand peer review-which is why a key part of the movement is to replace peer review with "viewpoint diversity." The question is how to convince ppl to support humanistic scholarship.

I actually can’t get past the first sentence of this opinion piece: “Most college professors I know believe that students learn to think — critically, creatively, reflectively, tenaciously — only by writing.” This simply isn’t true, at least not in my experience, and it sets up quite the straw man.

Students are already asking to submit work that is 3-4 weeks late in only week 6 of the term. I have a clear policy in my syllabus that says that there are no penalties for any late work up to two weeks after the due date, but after that it's a zero. They won't like it, but I'm going to enforce it.

When I taught at an all-boys prep school, we'd do an activity where I had them list every sexual term they could think of. They'd often laugh, as many were absurd things meant for Urban Dictionary. We'd then go through how many terms were violent (~85%) and how many were male-dominant (~90%).
