Lignin chemistry!! I’ve drawn a line tree with the lignin polymer behind it. I’ve drawn it as one single polymer throughout! This messy, highly irregular biopolymer gives plants structural strength and helps protect their cell walls. #sciart #chemsky

I'm sorry but what did the cute little mouse do to deserve this
A screen grab of the Wiki page for the "bastard big-footed mouse" which is actually just a very cute, very little mouse.

"In 2022 researchers reported the discovery of an ultra-saline brine pool in the Red Sea, which they named NEOM after the futuristic city Saudi Arabia was planning to build." ok I dont think the team were trying to be funny, but naming a "pool of death" after the weird, failed Saudi city is great

Some people say UK should stop building clean energy and should extend its reliance on gas power instead Choosing my words carefully, I would say that it's an interesting time to be making that argument www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-win...

Analysis: Wind and solar save UK from gas imports worth £5.9bn during Hormuz crisis - Carbon Brief
The UK has avoided gas imports worth £5.9bn since the start of the Hormuz crisis as a result of record electricity generation from wind and solar.

Every time a discourse kicks off over whether AI music, literature or art will be "as good as" the real thing, I'm always amazed more people don't cite that **there already are** creative pursuits where human-free spectacles have been available for decades, and nobody has ever wanted to watch them.

13 Monsters Good And True I think there are so many genuine monsters in the world that I am consoling myself by drawing little monsters who are good.
Drawing of 13 little 'monsters', rather cute little critters who wouldn't harm a fly, in fact they'd probably give it a bowl of milk and a tiny bed for the night.

Very funny how Wes Streeting’s statement that the local farmer only had a “partial picture” read like “the intelligence services were all over this plot already” and could now be anything from that to “oh wow you’ll never guess what they found in the vans and I really wish I could tell you”.

I've talked to a few journal editors who are concerned about similar problems re: anonymous reviewers. If a peer reviewer wants a little help & feeds your unpublished submission into an AI system, they've just shared your proprietary work & broken confidentiality. A nightmare to think about

Two panel comic. Panel 1: a bat hangs upside-down from a telephone line at sunset. The bat is in front of a billboard advertising the Florida Mega Jackpot, which is valued at $5,318,008 - represented with a digital ticker. Panel 2: the POV flips to the bat’s upside-down perspective, which makes the digital numbers look like they spell “BOOBIES”. The bat appears delighted.

🦭 Senryūdō gafu Asakusa-ku: Matsuzaki Hanzō, Meiji 13 [1880] [Source]
Two-page Japanese woodblock illustration from 1880 showing detailed black-and-white depictions of marine animals and seals. The left page features a large flatfish at the top and a seal with distinct whiskers and fur texture below it. The right page shows another seal with detailed fur, accompanied by an eel-like sea snake and coral or seaweed motifs. Japanese characters label the animals and plants, emphasizing the naturalistic study. The image combines scientific observation with artistic style typical of the Meiji era.

yeah maybe there is a difference in expectations, with trekker more likely to be ok staying in hostels etc. but also I would be very willing to do that on a wildlife holiday 🤷‍♀️

Josh Luke Davis 🏳️‍🌈 @joshlukedavis.com · 21/09/2026
question: why is that walking/trekking holidays which include a guide etc. are often cheaper than wildlife watching holidays that also include a guide etc. is it just... that wildlife people are willing to spend more so the companies charge more?
