Interesting biomarker for 24 hour and 28 day mortality in critically ill patients (reflects metalloproteinase tissue damage and angiotensin II activity). AUC 0.83 for 24 hour. Use of Intralipid in a Propranolol/Quetiapine induced cardiac arrest - our poster today at #SOA25 Evidence for lipid rescue is (and will likely remain) limited, but it really was an inspiring and uplifting case to have been a part of - ROSC after 76 mins CPR and an excellent neurological outcome.

My family had a recent experience of hospital care & we saw effect of this type of taskification of care. Pointless delays, miscommunication, unnecessary referrals etc. No one had the patient at the core of their thinking as they did their bit of the job - result was real anguish

These cuts come as high-ranking US officials criticize top journals as ‘woke’ and ‘corrupt’. In May, RFK Jr threatened to bar government scientists from publishing in top medical journals. And several journals received letters in April from DOJ alleging political bias in the research they publish.

the volume of an ellipsoid is ABC/2 so if a patient is in hemorrhagic shock with an 3x4x5 cm hematoma in their abdomen, the hematoma *cannot* explain their hemorrhagic shock (estimated 30 cc volume) keep looking for the source of bleeding (which statistically is likely to be a GI bleed) #EMIMCC

The main causes of death of US children are traumatic (cars & guns). Currently, infectious diseases hardly contribute. A century ago the main causes were infections. Vaccinas have made fatal infections extraordinary rare, but antivaccine advocates could reverse this. www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....

why was it predictable that ICU-ROX would be neutral? interventions that affect mortality strike at the *core* of the disease process (e.g., PCI for OMI) as you move further away from the central disease process, the minutiae of supportive care details become unimportant (eg 92% vs 96% O2) #EMIMCC
