This is a disaster. The ethics committee in Denmark that approved the Guinea-Bissau study which will withhold the birth dose of HepB vaccine “had never considered medical studies before but it changed the rules in order to vote on this one”. Four members of the committee have resigned in protest.

It’s simply unimaginable that CDC Director Dr. Erica Schwartz has just bowed to RFK Jr. and approved funding for an utterly unethical clinical trial that will withhold the birth dose of HepB vaccine in Guinea Bissau. It is to be conducted by researchers accused of academic misconduct.

Wake up, babe. The Prime Minister just dropped “hydronym”.
The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.

The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.

Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

More for the archive on the history of Republicans calling it the "Democrat Party." I missed this source--from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in Sep 1952--when, several years ago, I wrote a history of this "hanky panky with a suffix."
Hanky-Panky With a Suffix
Gen. Eisenhower has adopted Herbert Hoover's device of referring to the party of his opponents as the `Democrat party.' We take it that the wordsmiths who concoct his speeches have solemnly decided, in an extraordinary semantic conference, that `Democratic' can be converted into a bad word, in case it is in danger of becoming a good word, by dropping the suffix.

#ResistanceRoots Katharine Lee Bates was born on this day in 1859 in Falmouth, Mass. Best known for penning the words to “America the Beautiful,” she was an educator, poet and social reformer. Her anthem includes a mandate for social justice, begging America’s wealthy to care for the vulnerable. /1
Katharine Lee Bates, ca. 1880-1890. While Bates is remembered for the soaring patriotism of “America the Beautiful,” her daily life during the Gilded Age was defined by progressive activism, labor reform and community organizing. Driven by her beliefs as a Christian socialist, she used her platform and writing to champion the rights of the working class, women and immigrants. She was a prolific writer, publishing dozens of books and hundreds of poems, essays and articles. She also took the traditional English Literature curriculum at Wellesley College and transformed it into a powerhouse of modern literary scholarship.
