As a recovering "Having opinions about music is my whole personality" guy, this fascinates me. I've heard "Choosin' Texas" (honestly, it's fine), and I've seen a lot of writing about its chart dominance. However, I don't think I know a single person who claims to *like* it. 🤔

I'm already following, so I can't add to their number. But if you have a Bandcamp account, it's worth checking out @iheartnoise.bandcamp.com! They're a very active label with a good variety of indie bands and artists, with a focus on experimental and adventurous sonic textures.

Here's an idea: Using generative AI is much more like *consuming* than it is like *creating.* I hadn't heard this framework about generative AI tools before, and it rings true to me.

4 panel comic.

Panel 1: A man is happily knitting. He thinks what a relaxing hobby he has. A purple demon emerges from behind the couch and angrily bellows TURN IT INTO A SIDE HUSTLE

panel 2: "Can't I just enjoy it?" NO! MAKE YOUR PASSION YOUR PASSIVE INCOME

panel 3: "But-" MONETIZE YOUR FREE TIME the demon bellows inches from his face

Panel 4: the man glowers unhappily behind a display of multicolored scarves, his booth is titled Kevin's Stupid Scarves. Each sells for $20, which is comically undervalued.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once: — Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing — Against raising the minimum wage — Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though."HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

One of the amazing things about science is we will never run out of mysteries. Take "Naturwissenschaften (2003) 90:495–500", which performed a survey of 10,000 dinosaur fossils for evidence of tumors in the bone. I was prepared for yes, no, but what I wasn't prepared for was: "only in hadrosaurs."
It's a black and white paper header for a short communication, and I've copied the text below. Please stop reading if you don't want the literal copy to be read to you.

“Enter password to confirm”
“Incorrect password”
“Incorrect password”
“Do you want to reset your password?”
“Reset link has been sent to your email”
“Please choose a new password”
“New password can't be the same as old password”

A huge group of people are in a giant hole in the middle of a rolling field. There is a large sign with an arrow pointing to the hole that says "HOLE." Suddenly the group's attention turns to a new hole, complete with a giant sign with an arrow pointing to it that says "NEW HOLE." One person points to the new hole and says "hey look! Someone made a new hole!" The mass clamours out of the old hole and makes a bee-line toward the new hole. It's chaos. One person, now situated in the new hole says "this feels like how the old hole used to feel." Another person nods in agreement.

Verizon might regret sending me this survey. I've worked with tech support agents since my family first got a cable internet connection, when I was 14. I've been in IT professionally for a decade and a half. When I say this was the worst customer support I have *ever* experienced, I'm not kidding.
A screenshot from an email. There's a Verizon Business logo in the header, and an invitation to complete a survey in the message's body.

The message contains some information about the support ticket, including a Service ID number which I've redacted.

It then asks, "Please take a couple of minutes to share your feedback, starting with the following question:

"Overall, how satisfied are you with the handling of this ticket?"

I love the nuance that @kyleor.land brought to this @arstechnica.com article about Silksong and its difficulty. My hot take is that customizable difficulty is good, full stop But even so, the experience of a player who uses these features will be different from someone who beats it "as intended."
