You should go and see Rachel. She's very good, but also, the balls it takes to do a post like this - in a climate where comedians are encouraged to post nothing but wins, forever - merits your attendance on its own.

🧵 Matt Goodwin demanded to be fact-checked live on air when he claimed the UK spent "£100 million PER YEAR on family planning and condoms in Pakistan". He then 'corrected' himself to £74.3 million, saying it was based on a "major news story from October 2025" He was, of course, still wrong... 1/30
Screenshot of LBC tweet:

How much has the UK actually spent on condoms in Pakistan?

Henry Riley is sceptical about Matt Goodwin's numbers so the reform politician calls himself to be fact-checked live on air.

This is sexual violence as a form of terrorism. It is political violence and it is chilling and horrific, and AOC was absolutely right to be terrified that the goons (now pardoned) laying siege to the capital would rape her if they found her. Small changes won't fix this. FLIP THE TABLE NOW

I've thought the Tories would go after IHT for a while - it's an obvious political choice given the voters they're targeting. But this is about the worse way to do it as it further gums up the housing market.

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

Actually interesting section on Reform. "To those who say 'unite the right', we are not uniting with that". Says she doesn't want to debate if her mixed-race children are English. "We must not let these people take us backwards." This is a very welcome section, which wins a standing ovation.

Obviously laughable. But a reminder of how these people would behave in power: Financially benefiting the journalists and pollsters who do their bidding, legally pursuing those who do not.

The first time since she became leader that I actually respect something Badenoch has said. Very low bar but a lot of right-wing politicians can't clear it. It's a Rees-Mogg versus Tucker Carlson scenario. Of course she may well end up making a deal with Reform anyway.

also IMO her examples aren't really wrong. Yes some people questioned whether those players were English but there was a pretty strong consensus at time that the people who did so were racists. The point isn't there wasn't racism (there def was). It's more society didn't say "and that's acceptable"

If you believe this, I have a bridge to sell you. The prime directive of the Conservative Party is to get and hold power. The idea that it would risk throwing away the opportunity merely because it involved an albeit uncomfortable arrangement with another right-wing party is clearly for the birds.

NEW The Manchester City decision shows the costs of an aggressive litigation strategy How the club’s lack of cooperation and putting forward dishonest evidence have put the club at a disadvantage By me at the Empty City (£) emptycity.substack.com/p/the-manche...
The club is now not in a happy place legally.

Not only has it been found to be in breach of various regulations, the commission ruling uses terms like “sham”, “disguise” and “conceal” in respect of those breaches, on the basis of “strong, cogent evidence”.

But this post is not about that evidence. This post is about what the club did once it knew it faced an investigation about those matters.

It made a decision not to cooperate.

It made a decision to put forward witnesses to provide evidence on key points which was found by the commission to be dishonest.

Those were aggressive decisions the club made once it know it knew it was in regulatory and legal peril.

And it would have done so knowing the likely consequences of those decisions in the findings of the commission.

What does it mean to be a member-led party when the Greens have 230,000 members but only 1835 voted on the Zionism Is Racism motion? Doesn't seem like you can claim the result as the iron-clad democratic will of the membership while dismissing the concerns of actual democratically elected MPs

As long as the Tories are threatening to leave the ECHR, they aren’t a serious party. Consider it the ultimate red flag. Any party who’d take this entirely unnecessary and ruinous risk with our rights and our country’s security and wellbeing should never get its hands on power. (Letter, Times)
Value of the
ECHR
Sir, In dangerous times, serious countries do not retreat into splendid isolation. They build alliances, multiply their influence and strengthen institutions. Key among those is the 46-member Council of Europe, at its heart the European Convention on Human Rights. As former independent reviewers of terrorism legislation we have seen at close quarters that the ECHR is not just a human rights instrument. It is a national security asset. Terrorist networks, hostile states, organised crime gangs and people smugglers do not respect borders. Tackling them requires arrangements for the closest possible co-operation with our neighbours, including through joint investigations and police access to European passenger, fingerprint, DNA and vehicle data. These arrangements expressly depend on internationally agreed human rights standards, applied by a supranational court. We detect no political willingness to excuse the UK from compliance with standards to which the rest of Europe already subscribes. As authoritarian powers grow more aggressive and democratic institutions face mounting pressure, Britain should not be abandoning one of its greatest postwar achievements.
The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the ECHR. It is whether, in an increasingly perilous world, we can afford not to.
Lord Carlile of Berriew, Lord Anderson of Ipswich, Sir Max Hill
