Dolly Parton represented the best of us. I'm sure she had flaws like everyone else, but deep within her was a sense of goodness, decency, and a desire to give back. Given her stature, the era she came up in, and our current world, I don't think I'll ever see another one like her in my lifetime.

This will be my 19th year as a college teacher and second as Interim Chair of our department. The semester starts off a little differently as I have to have my ACL and meniscus repaired. Not optimal but it's where we are. Regardless, I'm grateful to do what I do and wish all a good year ahead.

Very sad to hear about the passing of researcher Raul Pacheco-Vega. I did not have the pleasure of meeting him in person but he was one of the most generous and prolific scholars in higher education, providing dozens of free resources to help young scholars navigate the research and publishing.

We said goodbye to my dad yesterday in a brief but meaningful burial in Spring Grove Ceremony in Cincinnati. It was a beautiful moment. I sure will miss him.

Sometimes I look at a project for months and just feel completely stuck. Lots of data, little ability to parse through it and see the big picture. Then, one day, it just becomes clear. Then the writing commences. Lots of imposter syndrome during that writer's block though.
