🧵 In 2011 I did a project for lovefilm who had recently been acquired by Amazon. Netflix were launching something called “streaming” in Jan 2012 and lovefilm were worried about what this would be, and whether it would disrupt their rental model…

Trump - disaster for climate. Bolsonaro - disaster, (but tracts of Amazon to become savannah whoever wins). UK isn't in a terrible position. North Sea, largely irrelevant. China huge shift. Change in energy mix everywhere. Baked in transition trends globally. But state of the debate. Good lord.

Admittedly getting it through that one reason out of three or four that we're not in a depression is the energy transition. More practically electricity prices and gas prices are delinking significantly in the UK possibly to the tune of hundreds of pounds. Not an optimal policy mix but not terrible

I probably have a different assessment. Regarding trade offs the country and certainly the electorate is split and even then, mostly, on specifics not broad direction. And often it's the judgment on initiatives coming in too early. (And the journalism on average is the usual dreck.)

“Destroyed a ULEZ camera” is an interesting way to describe detonating a homemade bomb in a residential street, sending shrapnel into homes and cars, and being convicted of causing an explosion likely to endanger life. Still, “camera” does make the fifteen years sound terribly unreasonable.

Subverting democracy isn't new to John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, or Amy Coney Barrett. All three were on George W. Bush's "Florida Recount Team," which lay the groundwork for stopping vote counting in Florida—and Bush v. Gore, the politically-motivated SCOTUS decision that gave Bush the election.

Perhaps the most dangerous hunting accidents in the Middle Ages weren't accidents at all: they were actually instances of killer rabbits hunting humans. All people from emperor to lowly peasants feared these rabbits, especially the killer Rabbit of Caerbannog (from Monty Python😊).🧵7/7
A rabbit is reloading a crossbow in the left side of the image while another rabbit on the right side of the image is carrying away a human that has been hunted. The human is hanging upside-down from a staff that is being held over the rabbit's shoulder. In the centre is a human hiding in a small tree, seemingly hoping that he won't be killed. Beneath his is another, smaller rabbit that is looking up at him in the tree.

The best place to begin to calculate compensation is to consider what winning the Premiership means to Brendan Rodgers. The 'drought' ends years' earlier. Rodgers has a title. He is damaged to the tune of several million maybe into double figures. Just the starting point, mind you.

My view is they owe billions. The graph shows that. I'll make a start. I think it's £10m to Brendan Rodgers minimum. He won the league in almost any other circumstance. Well. Unless we're going to do some weird multi-verse thing.

They have conniptions in the City about this from Bank Guvnor to florid Lloyds broker. Firing up Europe's desperately needed deep capital markets ought to be the greatest prize/future proof. But they're resistant to rules (which often originate in London). (I mean I am mostly agreeing with you)

I’d say the optimistic case now is: 1. There’s already some momentum. 2. UK rates start from a more restrictive position than US or Euro ones; less tightening ahead. 3. Maybe, just maybe?, it looks like European gas markets have gone a bit overboard and there’s some relief ahead.

I mean City owe Manchester United and Liverpool billions. It's not tens of millions of anything. It is surely in the hundreds of millions for Spurs, Arsenal, even Leicester. And for Arsenal the bizarre idea that the years of the offences didn't set up the 2020s. Otherwise billions to Arsenal too.

A personal view, borne from investigating illegal betting networks, is that one of the best ways to fight financial crime is to criminalise the enablers; the lawyers, accountants and trust managers who are perfectly aware of the criminal nature of their clients' activities but choose to look away.
