Did a corn maze with my kid today. He asked “What happens if we get lost?” “Well, then a minotaur eats us,” I said. He was dubious. “No, really,” I said. “All mazes have a minotaur.” He laughed. I was amused with myself. I’ve embraced being Calvin’s Dad. Eventually we all become Calvin’s Dad.

Maybe I’m biased as a bicyclist, but it seems that the I-5 closure has led to a lot of airport behavior on Portland roads. U-turns, near misses, honking, driving in bike lanes: The automotive equivalent of drinking a beer in your sweat pants at 10:00 am.

I ended a years-long D&D game last night. I was happy to wrap it up, give the players heroic moments, and end with multiple giant monsters exploding. I felt relief at not having to DM anymore. At peace and content. And as I was walking home I inevitably thought "Huh, I could run a Ravenloft game!"

Saw the Spike Jonze Where the Wild Things Are for the first time since 2009. God, I wish that movie had been more successful. Its integration of practical effects and CGI is flawless. I believed in every single thing on screen. Had it been more influential movies would look worlds better.

A few good ones: Godspeed You! Black Emperor was one of the most beautiful shows I've ever seen. Saw the show with a good friend of mine whom I hugged on the street outside afterward and said "Thank you for taking me to this." Just an immensely moving experience with art.
