A paper in Scientific Data presents how the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets mass has changed since the 1970s through 2023, reporting that it has lost 11.3 trillion tonnes of ice since 1979. ⚒️🌎🧪
go.nature.com
Mass balance of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets from the 1970s to 2023 - Scientific Data
The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are major drivers of global mean sea level rise and are predicted to continue to do so in the future. However, they also represent the largest source of uncertainty in projections of future sea level rise making robust estimates of observed ice sheet mass changes critical. Here, we compare and combine 42 independent estimates of ice sheet mass balance derived from satellite observations of temporal changes in ice sheet flow, volume, and gravitational attraction to determine the ice sheet mass balance from 1972 (Greenland) and 1979 (Antarctica) until 2023. We then use regional climate models to partition the total mass balance into contributions associated with surface mass balance and ice dynamical imbalance. The ice sheets lost 11,309 ± 565 billion tonnes of ice between 1979 and 2023, with glacier dynamical imbalance driving 84% of the ice loss and surface mass balance the remainder. This dataset can be used to track the contribution of the ice sheets to sea level rise and constrain projections of future sea level rise.

Every AI/HCI paper I review now just sounds like this.
Research [25] shows that people [26] enjoy the feeling of winning games [3,5,19]. Enjoying things can lead to longer life expectancy [2], higher economic productivity [9,22,33-40,302] and improve mental health [9]. Yet many games still include losing players [67,4]. A recent study showed that less than half of the players in a Chess [1] match win on average [42]. We have developed an LLM-driven co-creative [66], user-led [11], mixed-initiative [80] assistant for Chess [2], through which players can redefine the rules of Chess [3] using generative AI prompting such that they are the winner of Chess [4]. A study (n=3) showed that 100\% of people felt better, healthier and more self-actualised after using our tool, showing that this may be the way forward for games and human culture more broadly in the future.

Working on a pixel art autotile tileset 🧱 #pixelart #gamedev #godot #godotengine #indiedev
Screenshot of the Godot 4.7 editor running a pixel art platformer test level. The level is built from a blueprint-style autotile tileset: cream-colored platforms with light blue outlines and small dot details, set against an orange checkerboard background. The tiles connect seamlessly into walls, floating ledges, pits, and corners. The level includes a small round white player character, a red checkpoint flag, a blue door, spinning gold coins, a filled red heart and an empty heart outline, rows of grey spikes, and two blocky blue and purple enemies. On the left, the file browser lists the project's assets, and the inspector shows a preview of the 240×80 pixel tileset sheet.

The rapper also challenged Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots and prominent donor to Israel who refused to let Macklemore play at his Gillette Stadium outside Boston, to match his donation. Born on this day: Amy Winehouse, British singer‑songwriter celebrated for her soulful voice and confessional lyrics. Her acclaimed album Back to Black earned multiple Grammys, defining a generation with its raw emotion, retro style, and timeless blend of jazz and R&B.
Milhouse Van Houten from The Simpsons stands on a wooden stage before a red curtain, wearing his signature blue hair, round glasses, lavender shirt, red shorts, and shoes, speaking into a silver microphone on a stand, appearing nervous yet earnest. A real stretch isn’t it? Honestly the further the better I say. I never get sick of these, especially when other people seem to.
