We're getting steamed up for the last weekend of the Garden State Model Railway Club's annual spring shows! This weekend the club is running nothing but steam-powered model trains! If you are in Northern NJ and/or the greater NY Metro area, come stop by! gardenstatetrainclub.org 🚂
Six HO scale steam locomotives (Union Pacific 4-8-4 #844, Norfolk & Western 4-8-4 #611, Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #759, Pennsylvania Railroad 2-10-0 #4390, NYSW 2-8-2 #142, and Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 #265) fill the Albatross Yard Roundhouse, awaiting orders, on the Garden State Northern, the HO scale Model Railroad of the Garden State Model Railway Club. A trio of HO Scale steam locomotives (Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 #3710, ATSF 4-8-4 #3751, and New York Central 4-8-4 #6020) sit under the Albatross Yard Coaling tower on the Garden State Northern, the HO scale Model Railroad of the Garden State Model Railway Club.

Reminded me, I found this kitbashed "R3" motor online and it brings me much joy Was tempted to paint it in New Haven colors or an earlier NYC scheme, but, whoever made this did such a nice job, I'd hate to mess it up

I hate when model railroaders keep squeezing in more track and more bridges into a scene. So unprototypical. (Lead, SD)
A black and white picture from around 1900. It shows a short passenger train at a station going away from the viewer, just behind and above there is another train passenger climbing up a bridge about 20 feet (6 meters) above. Further in the background a mind train crosses a high metal trestle.

#DidYouKnow City Island in the #Bronx once had its own #monorail? When the monorail opened in 1910, it was the only monorail in the United States. It ran from Bartow Station (a now long-forgotten ruin inside Pelham Bay Park) to Marshall's Corner, and over a bridge to the tip of City Island.

A two track private light railway (basically a late 1800s LRT) became the busy quadruple track JR-Higashi Chuo Corridor we see today. Showing how continuous focused incremental upgrades over decades can really build out a system.
