I came home to find flight school happening in my garden. A fledgling tui learning to fly with the support of its parents. Such a cool sight. I got a picture.

This will not get better. The US will always have a kill switch on any tech the rest of the world might rely on. Europe/UK/Canada HAS to find a way to produce these things for themselves. It’s an emergency.

Related: NZ Nurses Organisation say this is an ongoing shortfall in staffing for over a year, pointing especially at data from August Starship oncology ward short staffed 85% of all shifts in August www.nzno.org.nz/about_us/nzn... (This press release, link above, has more content than their post ⬇️)
New Zealand Nurses Organisation - NZNO

“85% of shifts at Starship’s children’s cancer ward were short-staffed in August. Read that again.

Te Whatu Ora data obtained by NZNO shows that in August alone, Starship’s haematology and oncology ward was short 1,125 nursing hours, the equivalent of SIX full-time nurses.

NZNO Kaiwhakahaere Kerri Nuku says nurses have been warning about the risks to patient safety for two years.

“It shouldn't have come to this. Nurses have been crying out for the past two years about the risk to patient safety caused by deliberate short staffing.”

Now, vital cancer treatments for sick children have been affected.

Health Minister Simeon Brown can call them “postponed” rather than “suspended” all he likes. As Kerri says, those semantics mean little to whānau whose children have cancer.

Vote for Health this November! Link to full media release in comment section.

what needs to be added to this is the magnitude of the falsehood. i.e Hipkins was "mostly false" by a dollar for the price of an NZ block of butter in Australia. Luxon was "mostly false" about Labour having an $18 billion fiscal hole, which is 18 billion (10 orders of magnitude) times worse

I keep saying, but the only way we can consistently stop understaffing is to put nurse:patient ratios in law - that will stop the govt, Te Whatu Ora, and TEC from turning off the nursing tap. It also means that more money is needed. #1:4makeitlaw theconversation.com/nzs-nursing-...

NZ’s nursing squeeze is an election issue. Is it time for compulsory patient ratios?
A new study linking lower nurse staffing on surgical wards with higher rates of post-operative deaths has raised urgent new questions about NZ’s settings.
