I am rereading a translation I finished months ago for the editing round, and... I think I did a pretty darned good job on this one. I'm looking forward to next April, when it comes out. I hope it gets traction and people read it. I think it could be big, with the right promotion.

I am so addicted to chocolate covered almonds that if they are in the house, I eat them without conscious thought. I go into a fugue state and devour them. This morning I was driving my son to school and suddenly thought, "Why does my mouth taste like chocolate?" and recalled, I had eaten a handful.

Yeeeesss. I've turned in four (five?) manuscripts to publishers in docx format and gone through several rounds of edits (w/ track changes, comments, etc) using LibreOffice with not a complaint from the editors. They might not have even known? Not a single glance back at Office.

It has been an expensive couple of weeks. Broken dishwasher needed replacing, air conditioners needed cleaning, son needed a new bike, car needed inspection/maintenance. By the grace of whatever deities are in charge of such things, I also got three translation contracts. So, we are safe for now.

I’ve been upset about this for hours. Do they mean Old English? Which ended in the 11th century? Is he adapting it to sound like Beowulf? This play published in Early Modern English in 1597? Do they mean Olde English, the malt liquor? Old English, the floor cleaner? Are words real anymore?

Tomorrow I will go to a Devo concert. My first concert, back in 7th grade, was also a Devo concert. I hope that I will be able to go to more concerts after this but I fear there may be poetic restrictions preventing that. I’ll find a band representative in an energy dome at the show and ask them.

A light novel and manga publisher contacted me saying they are entering the "general fiction" market and asked my rates. I told them, but I'm not expecting a response. Good luck competing with Penguin, Hachette, Harper, and all the other publishers of "general fiction" in translation, though.

Listening to SHIKI by Sigh, and as a bonus getting some Japanese listening in via brutal extreme metal vocals that are surprisingly decipherable. Absolutely love these avant garde metalheads, and this might be my favourite album of theirs. A LOT of good ones to choose from.
