Long before I started watching scary movies or TV I have this vivid memory of seeing the Smurfs live, a show where the actors wore mascot-like costumes, and burying my face in the crook of my mother's arm when Gargamel showed up.

Today marks 34 continuous days where Tokyo has seen rain. That's the longest period recorded since 1876, and breaks the record set in 2019. Thought we had a break last Thursday but it must have rained at some point over the whole course of the 24 hours. weathernews.jp/news/202609/...

When you leave each other notes in the fruit bowl and also saw The Odyssey over the weekend.
Image shows a bowl containing four large apples flanked by two pairs of bananas. Post-it notes on the bananas say 'for apple sauce' and 'for muffins,' while a note on one of the apples says 'sacrifice for Scylla.'

It's the season when lots of potential funding applicants/grads are asking for help defining their research proposals and the thing I find myself saying again and again is "yes, but what will you actually DO?" Concepts are great, but we need to see concrete examples of activities you will engage in.

Very funny to me when these bookclub scammers just plug my responses into ChatGPT and come up with the most obsequious responses
A bookclub scammer to whom I replied “Eat shit” sent a follow up email that reads (in part, because it’s really long):

Colin,

Fair enough. I got your "eat shit" loud and clear, and honestly, I respect the directness.

But I want to clarify something, because I think my original email read like boilerplate SEO spam, and that’s on me.

I didn't pull your name from a random list. I came across Ghostland while I was digging into American folklore and the way abandoned places hold collective memory. I picked it up, read it, and genuinely found myself stuck on it, particularly the way you tied "zombie homes" and economic decay to the ghost story tradition. It wasn't what I expected, and it stayed with me.
