Always funny when people get pissy about, of all things, *work to rule*. They are still doing their jobs, to the letter of the law in fact. That is causing problems is a serious indictment of how much extra people are expected to do in their job.

It's official: Ireland has the most expensive electricity in Europe. Yet govt seem happy to bury their heads in the sand, and ignore calls for windfall taxes and targeted energy credits. In our Alt Budget, we have a wide range of measures that would make energy more affordable for you, right now.

The Government can’t afford to cut the VAT rate on home heating oil. But nor is it allowed to switch it to a different rate - and nor can it sanction a permanent scrapping of carbon tax. Nor is it allowed to cut (much) more excise on motor fuels. Explaining the brutal maths, and rules, this week:

EU tax rules, excise duties and a €1.5 billion budget pot leave ministers with few options to ease the cost of filling the tank.

Once again it needs to be stressed that this is something happening across the board in Irish immigration- changes in practice leading to refusals that would not have occurred in previous years. We are in a very dark time for the rights of people migrating to Ireland and their families.

At worst, the version of the highly contentious events given by the FAI on Saturday has been contradicted today. At best, the FAI has proven itself to have profound trouble communicating its position, and its own account of events.
