What’s the evidence on rent control? I charted the findings from 112 studies: Great for rent-controlled tenants ✅ But: Pushes up rents for other people ❌ Pushes down new housing construction ❌ Pushes down building quality ❌

The complete disregard for urban left voters by the NDP is expected and disappointing. Once again the failure of governments to build more housing in supposedly urban places has left the parties to fight over suburban voters who can only be bought by inefficient gas subsidies

Car owning suburban voters around metro Van drive the election. The only real way to drive down expensive fossil fule energy costs is reduce dependency on it. Plug in solar, no PST on used EVs, subsidies for transit passes, e-bike rebates, active transportation infrastructure grants ☀️🔌🚲🔋⚡️ #bcpoli

Halloween is coming. You don’t have to go to a “trunk-or-treat” event in Seattle! You can close your neighborhood street to through-traffic – for free! Trick-or-Streets permits are free and easy to get. Join here: seattle.gov/transportation/trick-or-streets
The ancient two-panel Drake meme. On the top, he's looking away in disgust and holding his hand up. The text next to it says "Truck-or-treat". On the bottom, he looks pleased and is pointing toward text that says "Close your street".

States who suspend their gasoline taxes are doing it for one reason, votes. It doesn’t fix a thing and exacerbates the problem. Lowering fuel prices when supplies are low creates more demand which lowers supply (basic supply/demand). H/T Mr. Global 🌎

Want to save even more? Use transit, ride a bicycle, get an electric car. Consumer subsidies probably get votes but this isn’t what standing up to big oil looks like. Finding ways to reduce or eliminate oil dependency is!

Jeremy 🇨🇦 @jeremy77.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
This doesn’t math at all. $175 at $0.10 you would need to purchase 1,750L of gasoline per month! At current prices that would be about $3,500 per month! This is also a deeply lame policy move. Instead of spending money to reduce oil dependency we are spending money directly subsidizing it’s use.

If you oppose a new pipeline, it is worth asking oneself why the majority of Canadians now exist on the other side. One cannot change minds without considering and understanding why people believe differently from oneself. same goes for a lot of other issues.

You can drive a moderately affordable EV from Portland to Missoula and spend 37 minutes charging. I have little patience for the argument that this is in any way a barrier for passenger EV adoption

Yup. Either politicians do not believe they can successfully convince their constituents to trust their increased tax burden will be more than offset by decreases in other costs like, say private health insurance premiums, or they simply do not want to make that argument. But they should.

The amount of electricity generated by plug in solar systems is modest but it has a powerful impact on people. It shows what is possible. It turns what until recently was a science fair dream of a future powered by the sun into a tangible item that you can plug in and reduce your electric bill ☀️⚡🔌
