The complete disregard for urban left voters by the NDP is expected and disappointing. Once again the failure of governments to build more housing in supposedly urban places has left the parties to fight over suburban voters who can only be bought by inefficient gas subsidies

This is my neighbourhood & this reporting is lousy - as are the people leading these efforts. The traffic calming here was well-advertised, involved extensive consultation, and does not barricade anyone in their own neighbourhood. It has made the area much safer for people walking and rolling. 1/

I live close to Simon Fraser Elementary, which is like 250% over capacity because the catchment includes OV. The impact of this school don't just be in Olympic Village!

One may wonder, for the seven hundredth time, what Asian LNG demand BC and Canada are foreseeing when building LNG terminals that won't be ready for another 10 years

My helmet hot take is that participating in helmet discourse is useless because it never goes anywhere. Do I have a take? Of course! But I'm not going to tell you. It's a secret

There's been a TD Bank ad that's been playing during Jays games of parents realizing that their kids are having a party while they're at dinner from the doorbell camera, with the message that you and the bank care about your home, but your kids don't. Disrespectful and scary

The way BC normally treats temporary foreign farm workers is horrible. Abandoning these workers (likely the most vulnerable people in the area) is somehow worse

Redevelopment and renovations makes up about 10% of evictions. Owner use is around 60%. That doesn't mean that it isn't important to have protections for tenants due to redevelopment, but they're much more likely to be evicted due to other reasons

I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said but this is an act of abject cowardice. All the endless hand-wringing about towers and concentrating development on existing rental areas, and when the opportunity comes to do something about it everyone except Lucy votes for the status quo.

@lucymaloney.bsky.social @seanorr.bsky.social It would be great to get some of these street bike lockers in areas with a bunch of old rental buildings! My building doesn't have any bike storage so we have to carry our bikes up 3 floors to our unit

BCNDP: $8.5b for the tunnel: worth it $2.5b to widen Hwy 1: take my money UBCx, Burnaby Mountain Gondola, new yards for BCT that's bursting at the seams literally everywhere: crickets $100m/year for TL's fiscal cliff: stalling for 2 years and counting $20m/year in expansion for BCT: absolutely not

It's crazy the BCNDP is putting all of its eggs in an extremely expensive tunnel to Delta When the two options are either spend 8.5B on a tunnel or bail on the project, you should probably bail. Like you're not going to win any political points building this

Sad that there is nothing here for urban communities. We get a new tunnel to the suburbs, expanded LNG, a transmission line to the LNG, a bigger port, and "mining and forestry support". Vancouver got a half-baked apartment purchase program that is almost certainly getting canned

This is a net positive for Victoria, but it's very unfortunate that Victoria tried bike share too early and the first attempt horribly failed. Victoria has an amazing bike network, and it could have had a cool bike share to go with.

Perhaps the biggest difference is that this is a for-profit system that pays the city an annual fee. Worse than Montreal or Toronto that subsidize their systems, but probably better than Vancouver which charges it's system for ✨parking✨

Walking onto the ferry is much better experience than driving on, but only if you can easily get to the ferry! Better frequency, and better late night connections are needed at most, if not all major terminals

Big developers are often are against yimby candidates because they have traditionally succeeded in the current housing system. Making it easier for small developers to operate creates competition and lowers housing cost, which lowers big developers margins
