Sound Transit fare enforcement: they always immediately encounter someone who didn't pay, it takes them at least 5 minutes to resolve this, and by then everyone else on the train who didn't pay has already gotten off at the next stop

If you want a light switch that turns on and off automatically based on motion, that's an occupancy sensor switch. If you want manual on, automatic off, that's a vacancy switch. All the vacancy switches have bad user reviews because they don't turn on automatically

Every time I discuss this, someone shows up and asks some variant of "Isn't it inconsistent for them to be different?". One of them does a coercion we consider to be Bad, and one of them doesn't. "consistency" is that the function typing matches that _difference_ in behavior.
