Ooh, that could've been a really cool singleplayer mechanic, having a "splinter count" advance through certain events and tech, giving a chance for the faction to spawn taking a number of cities and units and giving the player a choice of which faction to continue as. Not as good for MP though.

I honestly don’t know if this is 1:1 applicable, but I think it’s relevant that the Luddites didn’t “smash the machines” because they were being replaced, or they feared the machines. They did it because the machines let the companies make WAY more money, yet the Luddites’ wages weren’t increasing.

The problem with this is, the people trying to fund AGI are the same ones who benefit from the problems, so any AGI that tries to solve problems becomes an existential threat to those peoples status, so they tell us "The Robots will try to kill us all", not mentioning that we were never part of "us"
