New from me. I wrote about the immigration questions on Alberta’s referendum ballot. www.hilltimes.com/2026/10/14/s...
CALGARY-Why are there immigration questions for Alberta's Oct. 19 referendum on separating from Canada? The answer is that immigration is the cornerstone of global far-right movements integrated into the Alberta separatist push. Immigration acts as a cognitive baseline and the connective tissue intended to argue separatism through a specific lens, and that lens is a fascist and racist one.

There are social service agencies in Ontario that have been on strike for 17 weeks. This is such an important but undervalued sector, already underpaid before Bill 124 limited public sector wage increases.
Placard featuring a drawing of a woman holding cash. Reads: OPSEU/SECPO, Frontline makes 3%, CEO gets 12%. Respect workers share raises! Pamphlet text: Support striking developmental services workers and help us get back to the people we support. We are striking workers in community, health and social services. Many of us work for Community Living Ontario member agencies, supporting people with developmental disabilities in communities across Ontario. Workers in women’s shelters and other community services are also on strike. We are fighting together to raise the floor for workers across our sectors—and for the future of the vital services our communities rely on. We care deeply about the people we support, and we want to get back to our jobs. In recent weeks, many striking workers and agencies have reached agreements—deals that are setting by new standards for frontline workers who have faced years of low wages. But some agencies continue to stall and delay fair deals, even as strikes drag on and the people we support go without the workers they know and trust. Stand with frontline workers and help us get back to the people we support! Worth fighting for—visit WorthFightingFor.ca to learn more and join the fight!

There are a few big fat Canadian political eye-openers in just these three paragraphs...
As first reported by the Star on Friday, the federal government clipped the wings of the premier’s vision for an expanded Billy Bishop within hours of receiving public survey results showing 87 per cent of 87,000 respondents were opposed to the idea.

The move blindsided Queen’s Park. Ford and Carney, who have enjoyed warm relations since the prime minister succeeded Justin Trudeau in March 2025, had even shaken hands to informally seal the deal at the premier’s Etobicoke home.

“It’s Billy Bishop for Alto, that was always the understanding,” said one insider, referring to the federal government’s proposed high-speed rail line linking Toronto to Quebec City.
