Last month @paulapenfold.bsky.social wrote this excellent piece interrogating a NZF candidate's disinformation about abortion. Today the leader of that party quite clearly shared the dogwhistle version of that rhetoric unchallenged. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...

From Peters' interview today:

Asked about abortion, Peters said "the facts" were worth revisiting.
"At its worst, and it's a matter of timing, but it shades into a thing called murder. You got me here?
"It shades into a thing called murder or assassination, get any name you like. But that's the purpose. We've got to know the facts."

It's shocking how much media attention we give someone who is the political equivalent of a drunk uncle bragging at the bbq. That legislation had the biggest submission campaign in support at the time. Roughly 50% of NZF's total vote count in 2023 submitted in favour.

Peters can bluster all he likes but I won't stop fighting for all trans people's right to bodily autonomy and self determination, including trans kids, and I've got a lot more years left on the clock than he does. If he thinks he can touch the conversion practices ban he's in for a fight. Tick tock!

The problem with debating Pharmac funding in isolation is that the whole sector is grossly underfunded. Yes, more $$ on medicines would bring gains. But there are better gains to be made by investing in, say, Māori health and public health approaches.
