This is great work and aligns with something I have been saying for a while... humans enjoy working hard toward goals. It gives us a sense of purpose. I think the current emphasis on quick and easy solutions is making people feel lost (with impacts on mental health), including many college students.

Yes! I have been saying this for quite a while. Offering schools year-round would not only help to reduce income-based achievement gaps, but would also solve significant child care problems that exist for all parents of children too young to take care of themselves.

Looking for journal suggestions. I have an undergraduate who is finishing up her thesis. She pre-registered her longitudinal SEM model. The pathways of interest were all non-significant, but there are some interesting covariate effects. The RQs and hypotheses were empirically based & well-motivated.

I’m a fan of trying to quantify how often reviewers & editors check authors’ preregistrations (eg, by @syeducation.bsky.social), but also we should not forget that reviewers fail to check for deviations from a priori plans in 100% of unpreregistered studies. Because they can’t.

Most papers comparing clustered data methods use biostat/econ language, so I tried to write one using psyc/ed language that covers the origin of the independence assumption, how each method handles ind. violations, and types of questions best-suited for each method psycnet.apa.org/record/2024-...

So proud of this incredible paper led by my grad student Kimia Akhavein, just published in Cog Dev: shorturl.at/chk47 We show that preschool EFs uniquely predict accuracy and speed on arithmetic problems in elem school, controlling for early math abilities and longitudinal continuity in arithmetic.
