This site is so fixated on "the South exporting the Confederacy" or whatever people forget "the North" has been exporting culture for so long and so well that nobody even recognizes it. For example Rutgers and Princeton played the first college football game.

Two things can be true at the same time and they are this: Dominique Pelicot is an obvious example that the underlying problem is by no means anything uniquely American, but also, as someone who didn't grow up in America, I found US college drinking culture incomprehesible, shocking, and abhorrent.

When you get confused by a human interaction into doing something with an unintended, deleterious outcome thats a scam, but when u get confused by a computer interaction into doing it, thats everything working as intended.

So you know previous waves of technological fabulism the tech companies threw a little loose change at social behavioral research and user interface experience. whats interesting about AI interesting is that they aren’t even pretending to care about how people use the technology.

By so many fundamental HCI principles, chatbot LLMs are simply bad software. But the magic trick of plausible information extrusion makes it an exception somehow. (Not that major tech companies haven’t been ignoring a ton of those fundamentals for years anyway… but still)

Reminder that federal loans are now capped at $65k total for undergrads, $20.5k/year for grad students & $50k/year ($200k lifetime limit) for professional programs (med, law). These limits change which programs remain financially viable without family wealth or private loans.

Texas repeatedly broke electricity demand records this summer, but ERCOT avoided emergencies as booming solar and battery capacity helped keep the grid stable.

This is one of those painful examples of why @krusynth.bsky.social’s “Move Carefully and Fix Things” is so important. People who work on gov systems that impact lives have a responsibility to ‘Do No Harm’ because if you f’k up it has *consequences*
But others carried on. One vendor, Zyter, had data discrepancies for months because it apparently didn't understand the difference between Medicare Part A, which covers inpatient/hospital care, and Part B, which covers outpatient services. Zyter's CEO, Sundar Subramanian, told Ars Technica in a written statement that the company is now "fully functional across Medicare Part A and Part B claims." The company is working closely with federal partners and the healthcare providers to
"enhance the experience," Subramanian said.
