Next up @anthrocypher.bsky.social. she is a great speaker and we are lucky to have her here #monktoberfest This talk is about how it was not in fact AI that killed Stack Overflow, but a failure to support and understand its community.

A lot of the advice from @brookejamieson.bsky.social is echoed in the book by @grimalkina.bsky.social. There are a lot of ways workplaces can fall apart. The recipe for healthy environment is remarkably consistent. Help people learn, make room for people to grow... #Monktoberfest

I'm obsessed with this distinction being made in this talk because it's a huge pet peeve of mine that we call loads of things "imposter syndrome" that aren't in tech! Drawing attention to external social pressures and getting sabotaged by pushback #monktoberfest

@sogrady.org just mentioned the D&I sponsor and scholarship to #monktoberfest. Last time (reeling from a layoff in a terrible year) I came because of it. Now this year I could come on my own and brought a stack of books equivalent to my flight tix from last year to give away to the community 🥰🥰🥰

Nobody past the age of twenty should be obsessed with what people majored in in college and see it as the single defining choice that entirely shapes someone, deterministically, for all time

I started tracking and I've spent roughly 20 hours on the phone dealing with doctor office, insurance AND pharmacy errors versus 45 minutes total of actual face to face care in the past six months. Not an exaggeration

Tomorrow: sharing a brand-new talk on understanding the psychology that empowers people to invest in metacognitive strategies and the collective problem-solving we need right now. Our usage of technology *and* the way we built it is shaped by the beliefs we have about how our minds work!

Generally speaking collective problem solving is a defining activity of humanity, and while all things have their individual differences, it's pretty unlikely that this capacity is constrained to a miniscule fraction of the population.

Building frameworks with experts going through rounds of consensus (e.g., Delphi panels), is thought to be a good way to elicit rigorous consensus frameworks. However, I have participated in multiple Delphi panels, and I am not convinced they are. I think they can veer toward mediocre flattening
