There have always been humans who thought: 1) The world will end soon 2) It will happen in a cool, exciting way 3) It’ll happen to me personally 4) I’ll be a martyred prophet, or a warlord, or otherwise special 5) People who don’t see this are lesser “Sexy apocalypse” is a great phrase for that

This is like when I first heard of JD Vance in 2017 – he was just Some Guy whose book VCs were pushing to founders, then boom – he’s thrust into the national spotlight as VP. On the same track is Aella, the sex mascot of the rationalist cultists, also about to be everyone’s problem 💀

Ive been saying for a while now, that the fear and disgust of disability and aging and death is driving the technofascists' apocalyptical thinking, in addition to their extreme eugenicist thinking. They truly believe they and they alone deserve to survive and thrive in this world.
Thiel’s philosophical assumptions might sound bizarre to outsiders, but they appear to be widely shared among the tech elite. “A.I. and its capabilities represent something analogous to the Second Coming,” Jeremy Nixon, a founder of an A.I. hub called A.G.I. House, said in May. The technology, some tech titans believe, will allow humans — at least some humans — to escape the bounds of earth and even perhaps the inevitability of death. It represents liberation from hopelessness and decay.

The AI companies are using religious language to legitimize their vision of dominance – and trying to convince the rest of us that this is inevitable. But if it were inevitable, would they need to be this breathless in trying to convince us?

hey i wrote about this yesterday and compared our tech oligarchs to the planter class of the South pre-civil war www.patreon.com/posts/152399...
Of course, while the planters were playing their courtly games and taking their Grand Tours of Europe and such, their genteel lives were being funded with cotton money. And that money was being generated (and therefore should have belonged to) the enslaved Black people who did everything from harvesting the planters’ crops to cooking their food to warming their beds, all against their will and with no benefit to themselves. Our era’s aristocrats are playing games of their own while ordinary working people earn them unprecedented amounts of money. They’re injecting human growth hormone to more closely resemble the muscle-bound gods they see themselves as; they’re buying themselves cameos in their favorite TV shows because it makes them seem fun and creative. Elon Musk in particular is notorious for even paying ringers to boost his video game scores by playing as him. Our particular “planters” don’t pose as Arthurian knights, but as MMA fighters with a sideline in content production. One wonders whether the pose was as ridiculous to workers 150 years ago as it is to us today.
