From Open Access to Societal Impact: A Short-Video Workflow for Research Dissemination and Impact Measurement | Nordic Perspectives on Open Science
This note presents Window to Science (in Danish, Vindue til Videnskaben), a pilot project that aims at developing and testing a structured workflow for disseminating Open Access research through a short-form video format. The project translates recently published, peer-reviewed Open Access articles into short “paper videos,” distributed via platform-based channels such as YouTube and social media. This note focuses on three aspects: (1) the methodological design of a scalable workflow covering article selection, narrative transformation, standardized production, and distribution; (2) an integrated framework for measuring impact using platform analytics, referrals to original publications, and alternative metric indicators; and (3) contributing to the general public awareness and appreciation of science, to support the integrity of science, while combatting fake news and misinformation. The project draws on early experience and contributes to a practice-based model for linking Open Access publishing with measurable forms of public engagement.

VACANCY: Operations Manager 2026 – DOAJ Blog blog.doaj.org/2026/08/10/vacancy-op…
blog.doaj.org
**Closing date: 12:00 UTC, Friday 28 August 2026** **_Do you enjoy bringing structure to complex work, improving how organisations operate and helping colleagues succeed? Are you motivated by using your organisational, people and problem-solving skills to support a global mission? Join DOAJ as our Operations Manager, and play a key role in ensuring that one of the world’s leading open scholarly infrastructure organisations continues to operate effectively and sustainably._** #### About DOAJ DOAJ is a global open scholarly infrastructure that indexes and promotes quality, peer-reviewed, open-access journals. We help researchers, libraries, and research funders identify trusted open access research. DOAJ is a mission-driven, non-profit foundation registered in Denmark. We are a small, fully remote organisation with colleagues across Europe, Africa, Asia and South America. Our team brings together publishers, librarians, and academics committed to making research more open and equitable. #### About the role We are looking for an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to help DOAJ operate effectively and sustainably. Working closely with the Managing Director and colleagues across the organisation, you will help develop the systems, processes and ways of working that enable DOAJ to deliver its mission. As a small, globally distributed organisation, DOAJ relies on effective coordination across teams. The Operations Manager plays an important role in ensuring that information flows effectively, processes are clear, and colleagues have the support they need to deliver their work. This role would suit someone who enjoys improving services, managing information and processes, and supporting a mission-driven organisation. We welcome applications from people with experience in operations, libraries, information management, scholarly communication, research support, publishing, nonprofit organisations or related fields. **The role is 30-37.5 hours per week and is fully remote.** The Operations Manager has responsibilities in the following areas: **Operations Management**** **As part of the Executive team, you will contribute to the organisation’s development and ensure that DOAJ’s services, systems and processes support effective working. This includes overseeing our Help Desk service, managing access to organisational systems and tools, and identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working. You will also serve as the privacy and GDPR contact. **Strategy, planning and projects**** **You will work with colleagues across DOAJ to support strategic and annual planning processes and help turn plans into practical action. You will support project and partnership delivery by helping establish effective processes, monitoring progress and resources, and ensuring good internal communication. **Governance and compliance** You will support DOAJ’s governance processes and help ensure compliance with relevant Danish requirements, support risk management activities and contribute to organisational resilience planning. **Financial management** You will support the effective financial management of DOAJ by working with the Managing Director and Finance Administrator on budgeting, financial reporting and forecasting. You will liaise with our external accountant to ensure that financial processes, policies and controls are effective and compliant with Danish requirements, and coordinate year-end processes. You will supervise the work of our finance administrator. **Human resources**** **You will support DOAJ’s people processes and contribute to a positive and effective working environment. This includes supporting recruitment and onboarding, maintaining team contracts and job descriptions, and keeping HR policies and procedures up to date. **About you** You are organised, proactive, and able to manage a wide range of activities. You enjoy improving processes and solving problems, and have a “can do” attitude toward finding practical solutions. You will enjoy working collaboratively in a small international team, building relationships across cultures and time zones, and contributing to an organisation where everyone’s work has impact. You understand the importance of trusted information, openness and equitable access to research, and share our belief that research should be open and available to everyone. #### **Essential requirements** You have: * Degree-level education or equivalent relevant professional experience * Experience managing operations, services or organisational processes within an organisation * Experience working with organisational finances, budgets or financial processes. * Experience working with a range of stakeholders, ideally in an international environment * Excellent organisational skills, including managing deadlines and prioritisation * Ability to work independently, take ownership and identify areas for improvement * A collaborative and supportive approach to working with colleagues * Strong written and spoken English communication skills #### **Desirable experience** * Experience with Danish administrative, financial and regulatory systems * Experience within academic libraries, publishing or another part of the scholarly communication industry * Fluent in written and spoken Danish * Experience of working within a remote organisation #### **Working arrangements** You will work remotely and will need to manage your schedule and work independently. Regular meetings with the Managing Director are expected, either in person or online. Occasionally, you will need to travel to meetings and industry events. We are currently only set up to employ staff on contract in Denmark. Applications on a self-employed basis are welcome from anywhere in the world, provided that you are also available for meetings during standard Central European working hours. #### Compensation The Managing Director will agree on the level of compensation upon appointment. The level of compensation depends on location and type of contract. #### Diversity DOAJ is an adopting organisation of the C4DISC Joint Statement of Principles and strives to improve diversity and inclusion in scholarly communications. We are committed to ensuring these principles are reflected in our organisational structure and underpin our day-to-day operations. #### Questions and application If you have questions about the role, working for DOAJ, or the application process, please email **Dominic Mitchell** at **dominic@doaj.org.** **To apply, please send a cover letter and a copy of your resumé/CV to Dominic Mitchell, DOAJ Operations Manager (dominic@doaj.org), by 12:00 UTC on Friday, August 28 2026.** **_Your cover letter must explain how you meet the essential and desirable requirements._**
